Book Description

July 1, 2009
In a world of espionage and deceit, Melanie Ward lives her life as a Secret Agent. She has consistently proved to be one of the top operatives for a clandestine division of the United States government. Recruited ten years ago after graduating from San Diego State University, Melanie distanced herself from family and friends, choosing instead to immerse herself into a new life. When a justly earned promotion is snatched away by her nemesis, the arrogant and smug Finn Parker, Melanie recklessly walks away from the Agency and everything she has become. Lost with nowhere else to go, Melanie crashes and burns on her parents' old plaid couch. This is not your typical spy story. James Bond never had to suffer through a barrage of blind dates instigated by his "loving" mother with the help of his college roommates. As Melanie struggles to repair broken relationships and heal old wounds, she realizes she belongs in her secret world of lies. But then there's Adam...

More About the Author

Kate is a first time author. She lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and twin daughters. She graduated from the University of Arizona and is currently completing the sequel to Living Lies.

After almost a decade in banking she left to pursue her childhood dream of writing. Leaving the fluorescents behind she dropped into a world of espionage and never looked back.

Kate shows her appreciation for wildlife with four large dogs roaming the yard and a bunny in her bathroom. She likes to play her music too loud and tries not to take things too seriously. Kate never texts while driving, doesn't have voicemail and would give up her cell in a heartbeat if she didn't have kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great plot, heroine and settings, February 25, 2010

This review is from: Living Lies (Hardcover)
This book exceeded my expectations as an entertaining read with an unpredictable plot, appealing characters and interesting settings. I'm looking forward to seeing where Melanie's story goes from here, as the possibilities are endless and tantalizing. For a first effort, it's probably closer to a 5-star.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Debut!, October 24, 2009
This review is from: Living Lies (Hardcover)
I was enjoying the story so much I read it through the night. It's nicely paced with enough drama and twists to keep things interesting. There were a couple points where it wasn't clear who was talking or, even once, what just happened but they are such minuscule bumps they don't detract from the overall story. Bravo to Kate Mathis on her debut novel. And please, please, please make this a series!
