I was given the 2009 version of this book as part of my WLS program at Torrance Memorial. I don't know how the 2003 version listed here compares with the 2009 version, but I found this book incredibly valuable as part of my pre op program and daily life! It taught me things about myself that I didn't know, helped me let go of the shame and misery I've held on to my whole life as an overweight person, and gave me the tools I have needed to be successful at living the post Weight Loss Surgery life! I can't recommend this book highly enough. Even if I never lose another pound, I have healed so much emotionally because of this book. I will always be glad I read it!
The first part is basically about how we got here and what we'll do about it... The second and third parts are about how to live with your surgical tool, and how to manage feelings and eating once you have made this new lifestyle change. I read this book during my pre op diet and it taught me so much! I lost much more on my pre op diet than I have ever managed to lose before and it helped me keep it off for a whole 6 months while I waited for my surgery to happen (it got postponed due to anemia). Every time I finish it, I just flip back to page one and read it again!! :D
