5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
I LOVED the movie Living Out Loud (and bought the DVD), and the soundtrack is incredible. Queen Latifah needs to do a complete jazz album because her voice is rich, sultry, and a joy to listen to. Her voice is absolutely intoxicating, especially on her renditions of "Lush life" and "Going Out of My Head." Other great tunes include the wonderful...

3.0 out of 5 stars Reel Retro
Nice collection of bluesy, jazzy tunes from the likes of Etta James, Dean Martin, Mel Torme and other. Queen Latifah surprises with her good vocals on a few tracks. The only song that seems out of place is Brownstone's "If You Love Me", an uptempo R&B song. The screenwriter said that he was listening to that song a lot as he was writing. The lyrics of...

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe she's a rapper!, July 27, 1999

Queen Latifah is amazing in this album (and the movie). I bought the CD right after I saw the movie, and although I've never heard of Queen Latifah before Living Out Loud, from now on any album where she sings jazz I'm getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy, yummy, yummy...., November 24, 1998
By A Customer
After seeing this movie, I ran home immediately to order the CD. For lovers of Word Jazz, for music lovers of all kinds, it is impossible to listen to this and not get all warm and fuzzy inside and goosebumps on the outside. Queen Latifah, throw out your rap shoes, honey, you were meant to sing these songs, the delicious creations of the greats. Lush Life is wonderful, Clark Anderson's Give Me Something Real - well, I'm at a loss for words. The silver throat of Mel Torme, Etta James' unforgettable At Last, I simply love this soundtrack, with its fun cherry on top snappy Danny deVito rendition of They Can't That Away From Me. Just when I thought the music couldn't be more perfect for every moment, it finished with Sly and The Family Stone's Hot Fun In The the Summertime, which sent me out of the theatre smiling and "coo-coo-coo-coo when I want to." Get this one. It'll warm up your winter to a third degree sizzle.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, November 20, 1999

I am a soundtrack lover and have many. This is by far the greatest. Queen Latifah should record more jazz. She sings this genre with so much soul and experience. I've been listening to this CD for 2 weeks and I can't wait to listen to it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant music from an excellent film, August 31, 2001
Buy this CD..even without seeing the film, which would be your loss...Buy this CD...I read about the process by which the film was made and the music was literally playing DURING the making of the film on the set...not tacked on later or simply scored. The synergy of music and image is remarkable for the emotional interplay it sets up. Brilliant.
Queen Latifah is outstanding. A remarkable talent. But why Clark Anderson is not a HUGE star just mystifies me. Incredible voice..he even wrote the song...AND he is a handsome guy too! He can even ACT. Where is he? Devito is certainly capable and does a nice job with his song but the other tunes on the disc are worth double the price. Buy this CD...It is in my top ten all time...and I have several thousand CD's...Strong enough review for you?

5.0 out of 5 stars Loving living out loud, June 30, 2000

I never buy soundtracks but from the moment the movie started I was hooked on the music and knew the soundtrack was my next cd purchase. I went straight for the cd rack and ravaged through finding the last copy. Great mood, jazz sounds, and lush lyrics. Excellent production and choice of songs, variety of sounds appealing on a broad base with nothing to dislike.

All the music is good but I was especially taken with Clark Anderson's number. Great new talent. He writes them he sings them. Let's keep and eye on this performer. He's going places!

This is a must-buy for anyone interested in soulful, beautiful melodies. Queen Latifah has the most amazing voice...I wish she would put out a whole album of this stuff! There are lots of treats on this CD, such as jewels by Etta James, Mel Torme, and Danny Devito (really). It's all great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes 5 stars, October 2, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you like jazz and easy listening this album is for you. And who really blew me away was Queen Latifa. I had no idea she could sing like that. She should be doing more jazz songs, she has such a pure voice. I play this over and over in my car I can't get enough. She's up there with Lena Horne in my book. Also, Danny DeVito sings on this, too, he is not a singer but it works! Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen Out Loud!, March 11, 2003

Rented this movie a couple of years ago and just fell in love with it. The soundtrack just grabbed me, and especially Queen Latifah's renditions of Lush Life and most particularly, Going Out of My Head. I normally wouldn't give a soundtrack a second thought, but this was so delicious. The Queen is simply wonderful. I've never listened to her do rap (and won't). She needs to do some jazz and R&B in the same mold. She's got such a rich, lush voice! I highly recommend this collection of songs.
