5.0 out of 5 stars The version to get!
This is the same release that came out in 2003 in the U.S.A., with the exception of being remastered by Trower's bassist, Mr. Dave Bronze, and with a different cover and photos altogether, and being released in 2005 in the european market.

2.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the "No Spin" Zone !
I am a professional guitarist and have been a Trower fan since the 70's, but I'm gonna tell you the truth about this CD. I do not agree with other reviewers that say the old Robin Trower is back. All these songs are immediately forgettable. The problem is not with Trower's playing, or the band, or the production, but the songwriting. There is no "Day of the Eagle" here;...

Trower fans rejoice!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Trower On Target, February 24, 2004
This review is from: Living Out of Time (Audio CD)
What a treat! Robin Trower has been keeping a low profile in recent years, but this CD should help raise that profile and bring him back into the ears of serious music fans.
I bought this CD last year when Robin first offered it on his website and have been singing its praises to friends and fellow aficionados for the last six months. Now that its available here, no fan will have an excuse to be without it.
From the first notes, old Trower fans will hear that something great is in the works. After a number of CDs of decidedly uneven quality, the Trower of old seems to have rediscovered himself.
I like the entire CD, but especially excellent are the cuts One Less Victory, Ain't Gonna Wait, and I Want To Take You With Me.
Trower's play is restrained yet powerful and Davey Pattison's vocals will almost make you begin to forget the late, great James Dewar.
If Robin Trower's aim is to regain his place at the head of the list of great blues-rock guitarists, then he is right on target with Living Out of Time.
I highly recommend you get this while it is available.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very pleasing Trower, but could use more though......, February 25, 2004
This review is from: Living Out of Time (Audio CD)
The latest Trower album is what you'd expect from Robin. It's Robin's best in years no doubt about it, the songs are pleasing and the guitar is great. One downside to the album is there is a need for harder rockin' tracks, there are rockers present, but nothing that matches the rock of Day Of The Eagle or Too Rolling Stoned. The first tracks rocked my world.

Here are the tracks.

1)What's Your Name: Starts off the album killer! An upbeat guitar rocker with some great vocals. 10/10!

2)Step Into The Sun: Wow, 2nd track and Robin blows me away again! Robin throws down guitar with the best of 'em again, probably the best guitar work on the album. 10/10!

3)Another Time, Another Place: Slows it down with this one. 3rd song blew me away AGAIN! The chorus definatly has great singing in it. Kind of reminds me of Bridge Of Sighs because of the light trem, neck pickup, and the deep thick chords. It's the best slow song on the album for sure. 8/10

4) Sweet Angel: Another upbeat track. Great song, love the vocals and layered guitars. This track kept bringing me back for more. One of the guitar hooks into the verses is very interesting. Excellent song. 9/10

5) Please Tell Me: Say hello to the Wah effect here. The vocals here are a bit boring on the verses, but Robin's riffs in the middle make up for it. The chorus is very subtle also. The song is a bit boring, but Robin's playing saves it. 6/10

6) One Less Victory: In This Place? Kind of. It's another slowed down tune, that picks up a bit with the drum track. Too dull for me. 4/10

7) Ain't Gonna Wait: Another downbeat track, I'm afraid this one can't catch my interest either, better than One Less Victory though. 5/10

8) Living Out Of Time: You'll be thanking your lucky stars for a rocker here. Upbeat track here with some great backing guitar and some hot licks by Robin! This one will keep you comin' back at the end of the album. 7/10

9) The Past Untied: The beginning guitar here will say awesome all over it. It turned out that lick was never used again in the song or vocal structure. This song is another slow one and Robin's guitar playing saves this one 6/10

10) You Still Came Back: Another great upbeat track, the vocal effort here is great and Robin's playing is great. This one is a keeper! 8/10

11) I Want To Take You With Me: This track is of epic length, 10:40 in length. It's a slow one too, extended guitar solo by Robin makes it interesting though 7/10

All in all, a great Trower album to add to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile addition to your Trower collection, December 15, 2004

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Living Out of Time (Audio CD)
I was heavily into Trower during the "Dewar years," but lost interest after his departure. I caught the new CD hype on Trower's website ([...]), read the mixed reviews here and elsewhere, then decided to take a chance and bought the CD.

Yes, more extended guitar work would've been appreciated, something I'd hoped for. Yes, there's nothing approaching "Bridge of Sighs" or other amazing classics, and the lyrics on some of the songs do nothing for me (the "failed relationship" stuff).

But I found some of the tracks, lyrics included, very compelling (Another Time, Another Place; The Past Untied; I Want To Take You With Me), there's classic "pop-Trower" (Sweet Angel), and straight-forward "power rock" (Please Tell Me, Living Out of Time). The final track (I Want To Take You With Me) does have an extended guitar solo that is rather exquisite.

Trower is one of the most, perhaps THE most, expressive guitar player around, and I think Dave Pattison's vocals are PERFECT for Trower's music, probably due to the striking similarity to Dewar. For me, the general feel of this CD is reminiscent of "In City Dreams" and, if it doesn't blast me into astral orbit like the Trower of old, is still very easy and enjoyable to listen to. In my opinion, the CD is definitely a worthwhile addition to one's Trower collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Believe What You Read Here!, April 21, 2004

I purchased this album based on the reviews I read here on Amazon. I am extremely pleased the reviewer's positive "spin" on this great album did not disappoint. To quote another reviewer "Robin Trower still matters". This is top notch singing, musicianship, songwriting & production in the vein of Trower's classic 70's releases. While not quite as flashy as he once once, Trower bends his notes carefully & expertly. Trower keeps the listener mesmerized not only by the notes he plays, but also with ones he doesn't. The song "Sweet Angel" sounds like a mellowed, well aged song written for "Bridge Of Sighs" album. The classic Trower tone is still alive and well. If you were ever a fan of Robin Trower, you owe yourself this disc. Add to cart.

I must concur with the other reviewers: this is not only an excellent album in a career of many, many great albums, but is one his best yet! What first caught my ears was the "understated" aspect of Robin's playing this time - just when you expect a rippin' solo to appear, along comes another verse and chorus instead - then the solo finally makes its way in, slowly and methodically, almost quietly. At first, I didn't care for this aspect of the album, but in retrospect, I figure I've got enough slammin' Trower guitar playing on his other albums so I can now appreciate this different approach. Further adding a new dimension to the mix is the increased use of acoustic guitars in the rhythm section - a nice touch that has only been hinted at on some recent albums. All tolled, an excellent addition to the Trower album lineup. Solid, melodic songwriting, a tight band to drive those songs, and the always inventive and lyrical guitar of one of the best, and probably most underrated, players in the world!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's about time Robin., May 24, 2004
This review is from: Living Out of Time (Audio CD)
To me Robin Trower reminds me of Frank Marino in one particular respect. A guitar player second to none that can put out a really boring and even an album that to me isn't worth keeping. I hate to say that because I love both of these guys. I hate when that happens. However, this is a breath of fresh air to me. Pattison is the only singer that could fill the shoes of the great one and pairs very well with Trower. This Cd is the best I've personally heard from trower since Take what you need. Nothing beats the duo with Mr. Dewar but Pattison sounds great and Trower's guitar is produced much better than recent efforts and the old man shows that he definately still has it.

4.0 out of 5 stars trower still has it, March 5, 2005
This review is from: Living Out of Time (Audio CD)
This is vintage trower. He is back in fine style with an album reminiscent of his earlier days. You wont find a day of the eagle here, nor will you find the all out pyrotechnics. What you get is a bluesy sometimes ethereal sounding collection of songs, that shows robin still has the licks to put out great material. This easily out distances his other recent releases and reminds me of the early days of For Earth Below and Bridge of Sighs. Get this album you wont be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A More mature Trower, July 3, 2004

'Living out of time' is considerably better than the past few releases when Trower was a trio. Those releases were terrible: i.e: 20th Century Blues/This was now/Disc 2, etc. That setup didn't work well so now Trower is back to a 4 piece. 'LOOT' to me, is a laid-back affair. There are no balls-out rockers here featuring the usual Trower pyrotechnics, that's a shame too because fans know what he is capable of. The playing is top flight, vocals are very good. Sound quality is also very good. 'LOOT' doesn't remind me of any particular past release, the guitarwork is more mellow. Only on track 11 do things heat up a bit. I think he is headed in the right direction with this lineup. Maybe the next release will be a little heavier. 11 tracks/51.09. The booklet is sparse, just credits/no lyrics.
