Book Description

June 15, 1998 Living In...
The Living in... series takes you on an armchair visit of the houses, gardens, museums and palaces of the world's most beautiful countries and cities. From Norway to Istanbul, from Portugal to London, discover the neglected treasures and hidden delights of regions which still harbor secrets to enchant even the most world-weary traveler. And for those inspired to visit, each volume includes an exclusive traveler's guide.

Once the center of a powerful empire stretching from Asia and Africa to South America, Portugal today is one of the most geographically and culturally rich countries in Europe. This superb volume celebrates the brilliant colors, lush perfumes, and traditional lifestyle of Portugal in a fascinating voyage from north to south. Both a style book and a travel guide, this volume also includes a peerless compilation of savvy practical information to make any visit to Portugal a memorable success.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've been there..., January 31, 2000
This review is from: Living in Portugal (Hardcover)
Not a light 5 stars, but well deserved. "Living" does not denote a short stay, but an investment. A beautiful book of very fine pictures. Includes many 'coordinated', decorated interior photographs of interesting household living quarters. The copy is well considered, and without "fluff", but written with a tender understanding of the country and its people. I have found this book to be a wealth of information and enjoyment. (don't look here for 'where to dine' -- it's in a different class).

4.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful start, April 9, 2000

This review is from: Living in Portugal (Hardcover)
Not really about living in Portugal, but rather, a nice resource to start deciding where one might want to live or travel in that pretty little country. It contains brief, well written summaries of Portugal's distinctive geographic regions, and is beautifully photographed. A large book for displaying a livingroom coffee table, and a nice read on a rainy day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Visiting Portugal, April 8, 2009

This is a beautiful coffee table book somewhat misleading in its title. It does not exactly describe life in Portugal. Rather it provides beauftiful photographs and informative text mostly about ancestral villas and hotels available to the -- I suspect well heeled -- tourist. A lovely book nonetheless. Just don't look to it as a manual for retirement.
