Book Description

April 3, 2001
Victoria Principal, television star, bestselling author (The Body Principal, The Diet Principal, and The Beauty Principal), and entrepreneur, now shares with us, in the long-awaited Living Principal, her program for living youthfully and maturing healthfully.

Having recently turned fifty, Victoria is the perfect spokesperson for women who want to feel and look their very best at every age. Her book can be used as a complete anti-aging plan, or each of the nine straightforward chapters can be used to meet specific goals or needs. Beginning with taking charge of your attitude and committing yourself to total mind-body health, Victoria outlines the need for routine and balance in your life. She offers a practical and easy-to-follow 30-Day Diet to Lose regimen with more than thirty-five recipes, an outline of the proper uses for vitamins and supplements, and an exercise plan incorporating tips on posture, pace, balance, and movement. Victoria is an expert on skin and hair care, and she offers women a tutorial not only in these familiar areas but also in two beauty essentials that are often overlooked eye and teeth care. She also prepares women for growing older gracefully (what she calls youthful maturity) by offering an in-depth guide to plastic surgery, understanding hormones, and staying sexy after fifty. Living Principal doesn't just concern itself with aesthetic beauty, though. Victoria encourages women to tend their souls, and explains how this can be accomplished with just Ten Minutes of Joy a day.

In Living Principal, Victoria Principal offers a thirty-day plan to begin the journey to a lifetime of whole-health.

From the bestselling author of The Body Principal, The Diet Principal, and The Beauty Principal comes a program to help women of any age incorporate realistic changes into their lives, to better themselves one step at a time, inside and out.

9 Living Principals:

Slim down with the 30-Day Diet to Lose or quickly drop a few pounds with the seven-day Bikini Diet.

Keep weight off with a balanced Diet for Life.

Commit to whole-health with vitamins and supplements rich in antioxidants.

Exercise anytime, anywhere. Use toning exercises to firm up your body while waiting in line, sitting at your desk, and even shopping.

Develop a lifetime of beauty with regular skin, hair, teeth, and eye care.

Stay sexy and change your attitude with tips on youthful maturity.

Simplify your life by using Victoria's 1 to 10 scale to prioritize your daily routine.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

After The Body Principal, The Beauty Principal and The Diet Principal, Victoria Principal is back with Living Principal: Looking and Feeling Your Best at Every Age, an earnest exhortation to greater mind-body health. It features not only skin-care tips and a 30-day diet with healthy yet indulgent recipes, including Steamed Snapper with Scallions and Ginger and Veal Piccata, but also "Practical Steps for Tending to Your Soul." The book concludes with a 30-day whole health plan, which includes Principal's recommendation that readers allow themselves "ten minutes of joy" each day. Though such suggestions may seem goofy, many of Principal's health and beauty tips are sound, and her book lacks the scolding tone found in so many women's magazines.

From Booklist

How can a household-name actress ever feel depressed or self-critical? Is it possible that even the famous succumb to ordinary physical and mental maladies? Former Dallas TV series star Principal adds to her growing print repertoire a fourth book that targets the hearts and sensibilities of aging baby boomers. More precisely, she carefully dissects all parts of body and soul--from an improved attitude toward getting older to cosmetic surgery considerations--with well-documented facts and a handful of medical authorities backing her up. Sure, the inevitable diet (plus 40 recipes) regimen is present; it is, quite frankly, no different than many other healthy meal regimens. Exercise counts, as do caring tips for hair, eyes, teeth, and the like. What distinguish this from other mind-body tomes are, first, Principal's personality and willingness to reveal the bad with the good and, second, her spirituality. Barbara Jacobs

5.0 out of 5 stars The Living Principal: Looking and Feeling Your Best At Ever, February 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Living Principal: Looking and Feeling Your Best at Every Age (Hardcover)
I enjoyed reading this book. She had many rich and valueable words of encouragement to say concerning the beauty and value of a woman who has reached the years of 40 and beyond. She talks of the inner beauty that we have and how to tap into this to cause the outer appearances to glow with contentment and peace. She also addresses the outer appearances as well. She explains the care of our skin, hair, body in general as we mature. Victoria tells us with good care of the body, spirit and mind the body will age much more graciously. I found her words intellegent and down to earth. I read her book within days and have already passed it onto a dear friend who also asks many of the same questions the book tries to answer. One chapter, written by her husband who is a Dr., covers all the questions we have about plastic surgery. That was informative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living Life to the Fullest, August 2, 2001

This review is from: Living Principal: Looking and Feeling Your Best at Every Age (Hardcover)
Victoria's book is a great read. Truly inspiring for all ages, from taking care of yourself from the inside/out to the best beauty tips and showing us how important the mind & body connection is. Great diets, numerous recipes, skin care, dental care, hair care, and exercise, to an indepth guide on plastic surgery, vitamins, hormones and connecting to our inner self. Victoria's book covers it all. I must add if you aren't already using the "Principal Secret" skincare products, you don't know what you're missing.

In one word "Extraordinary".

I have all Victoria's previous books - "The Living Principal" is #1 above all other health and beauty books on the market.

Thank you Victoria!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Mother's Day!, April 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Living Principal: Looking and Feeling Your Best at Every Age (Hardcover)
For all of us who work, shop, cook, clean, tend to the needs of husbands, kids, friends, and parents, this is the "cure" I've been looking for -- practical tips for taking care of ourselves in the process. A lifesaver. I'm giving it to all my women friends for mother's day. I feel ten years younger (I'm 45 in actual years) just reading it! p.s. my husband still has a crush on Victoria ever since Dallas.
