I found Living Religions to be very interesting and informative. Before reading this book, I knew very litte about religions other than my own. After reading this text, I discovered the beauty in each religion presented and was able to erase the stereotypes and stigmas that I once held. I recommend this book to anyone who has little understanding of world religions and would like to become educated or for someone who may just need a reminder. It is an easy read, with the exception of some of the vocabulary associated with the different religions.

I have never read a religious studies book so focued and well researched. Mary Pat Fisher truly shows she knows what she it writing about. This book not only provides thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter, but it is also full of wonderful illustrations! A picture really is worth a thousand words. I couldn't be happier with it.

I found the book to be very informative. I also enjoyed having the CD to review the the chapters. That was a plus for me.

While Living Religions is a good source of information, it was incredibly difficult to read. It was like reading an encyclopedia. I did not like the authors gender bias.

An excellent introduction to the world's primary religious and wisdom traditions: their origins, major tenets, peculiarities and similarities across the spectrum, and contemporary manifestations. Along with the companion book, An Anthology of Living Religions, this text offers a solid study in the world's religions.

This is my college religion textbook the book easily describes and dissects each religion to their core while remaining objective about each in positive and negative ways. I would reccomend the buying the book if you need it for a similar purpose.

I really appreciate what Mary Pat Fisher has done with this survey text. My only complaint is that my students find it too difficult to read. Wishing for something equally comprehensive and balanced but at a reading level that is more accessible.

This is difficult to give a star rating to. The book itself was pretty good. I found it reasonably easy to read and fairly informative. I think I might have appreciated a few more anecdotes but I enjoyed the ones that were there.

The real problem I had, I guess, is more with Amazon. I ordered the new version of the book (not used) and, eventually, I noticed that the book kept referring to a CD. I did not get a CD. When I emailed customer support, they told me that they can't guarantee that media will be included with the book. Not only did I not get a refund but they couldn't even send me a new copy with the CD (since they couldn't guarantee that the new copy would have the CD).

I got through the class fine without the CD but there was a lot of research I had to do online to find some of the information I needed. For instance, we were expected to be able to recognize the gods and goddesses of Hindu by their pictures. The problem is that only some of the pictures are actually in the book - most of the pictures are on the CD.

In the end, I'm now going to be MUCH more careful about getting textbooks from Amazon. Check them out immediately upon receipt and make sure they have extras that were supposed to come along with them.

In the end, the book itself is probably a four-star book - maybe 3.5. The rest of the downgrade is to warn you about ordering it from Amazon.

I've been reading it for my Religions class and love that it came in a kindle version. After downloading the free kindle app I can access it from any computer. It saved me a lot of money and it returns itself as it is a digital copy (No late fees). This book is a great detailed resource for information regarding a large array of religions. It is pretty much text-only, my apologies to those of you who like pictures.
Overall, it is a good read and a smart choice for college students on a budget.
