5.0 out of 5 stars Dan Hicks if he had grown up on flamenco, gypsy, Hot Club
Excellent! An updated European version of Dan Hicks, drawing on flamenco, gypsy, and Arabic strains rather than American roots to complement their Hot Club/cabaret. Exceptionally clean and crisp, to the point of irony. Stand-outs: tr 8-Sous la lune (sexy melancholy, deeply engaging, brooding). tr 9-L'Avenir incertain du Titanic (dark, spiky tango)

3.0 out of 5 stars Just ok
I didn't find this album to be fantastic. It's all right. It sounds like alot of other albums that have been out for a while; I didn't find it to be terribly original or even all that pleasing to listen to.

It is a great fusion of various flavors, and as a result it is unexpected and entertaining all the way through.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album I own, February 13, 2006

.

Admittedly, I'm not a music aficionado, but of the few dozen albums I own, this one far outshines the others. This is modern music at its best, a sensual melange of jazz, Latin, gypsy, cabaret, and North African/Arabic music.

Every Paris Combo output is simply a collection of brilliant artistry, but this one will be remembered most favourably by history.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good mix of cultures, December 5, 2007

I am biased - Paris Combo is one of my favorite bands. The music is eclectic and upbeat.

It is a great CD to try to learn some French slang and some songs are slow enough to follow and learn by heart.

I personally used Paris combo songs to practice my French.

I strongly recommend this CD to those that like other bands such as Pink Martini.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful music!, June 20, 2009

I was fortunate to see Paris Combo at a showcase in New York several years back. This is a fabulous group with a crisp, intriguing sound. Don't let the French language prevent you from experiencing this band. The music is jazzy, world-beat-ish and very accessible. You'll be humming along in no time. Really.

5.0 out of 5 stars reminds us of being in Paris, April 24, 2009

We have a number of Paris Combo cds....their music always makes us feel transcended into Parisian smiles and joy in lieu of anger from some of the current trash on the US radio. Each of their cds has something a bit better, and different, than on their other cds....enjoy them all.
