Editorial Reviews

2013 album from the veteran Rock, Country and Gospel artist containing intimate acoustic re-imaginings of 12 of his most renowned songs. Working with famed veteran Country music producer Kyle Lehning, at Sound Stage Studio in Nashville and backed by a host of Music City's finest sessions musicians, Thomas recorded many of these as duets with a perfectly fulfilled "wish list" of guest artists from different genres. These include pop great Richard Marx, Country legend Vince Gill, bluesman Keb' Mo', Lyle Lovett, rocker Isaac Slade (The Fray), and producer/songwriter turned popular contemporary standards singer Steve Tyrell. Thomas also vibes on The Living Room Sessions with two lesser known powerhouses, labelmate and renowned Nashville touring and session singer) Etta Britt and Broadway and soundtrack phenom Sara Niemietz. The Living Room Sessions also includes four solo performances by Thomas.

5.0 out of 5 stars BJ is still the master April 5, 2013
Format:Audio CD
The Living Room Sessions is a must have for anybody who loves the music of BJ Thomas. Here's a guy who not only can actually SING, but he can do it without gimmicks, special effects or studio "tricks". This CD is a true work of love from BJ and some of his friends who join him in a new presentation of some of his biggest hits. All re-done with care and love from the folks at Wrinkled Records. There was a time I would say: "You can't improve on this material which has already sold millions of records"- but I would be wrong. The Living Room Sessions has not only done just that but these new duets and solo offerings from BJ are like discovering his amazing voice for the first time in a new setting! The guy will impress with his version of Brian Wilson's "Don't Worry Baby" (awesome falsetto), "I Just Can't Help Believing" with Vince Gill, the teaming with Isaac Slade on BJ's first big hit "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" is a standout. His friend and producer of some of his early hits, Steve Tyrell, joins him for "Rock And Roll Lullaby" but perhaps "Most Of All" with Keb Mo would be my choice for the albums high point. There is no bad cut on the CD. I can't overlook Wrinkled Records own Etta Britt with "New Looks From An Old Lover" and the incredible Sara Niemietz, the young lady with the huge voice who teams with Thomas on "Hooked On A Feeling". Last but certainly not least, another Texan, Lyle Lovett fits in comfortably on BJ's mega hit "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head". This is a CD you will enjoy over and over and if you truly love music you'll truly love The Living Room Sessions by BJ Thomas. Good to know good things actually do get better with age. 5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! April 3, 2013
Format:Audio CD
Aside from the cover photo, which freaks me out a little bit, I really, really love this album.

BJ Thomas and I are both a little older than when I first swooned over his cover of the Hank Williams song I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. (Elvis and I both think that is the saddest song we ever heard.) BJ can still bring it. I honestly think his voice is as good as ever. It's pretty amazing. I also love the group of artists he assembled for the duets. All can harmonize beautifully and make the songs sound richer and fuller, offset by simple acoustic arrangements.

This album makes me feel really nostalgic because BJ's voice is so familiar, and the arrangements are close to the originals. At the same time, the guest artists make the songs fresh. All show respect for the music. They let it breathe. No divas here. I absolutely love this album and I am going to listen to it a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS RATING GOES ALL THE WAY TO 11....!!!!! April 4, 2013
Format:Audio CD
My family comes from a long line of musicians dating all the way back to the 1830's. To us music is more than just a melody and a beat. Each year I gather with my brothers and sisters from all over the nation and we spend at least one night just playing music. "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" is a must for each gathering. I must admit that when I heard Isaac Slade and BJ sing this version I, for the first time, heard everything I've been trying to express each year when my family gets together. I've never heard this song done so beautifully and they have set the standard to perfection.

The rest of the album is no less amazing. Everybody should take the time to listen, purchase and share this album. What an honor to have another BJ and so many amazing guests all in 1 CD.

Thanks BJ for the memories!

5.0 out of 5 stars BJ is a sheer delight! April 4, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have been following BJ since his first release I'm so lonesome... This particular recording is magic. His voice is just silk and satin. I feel peaceful and safe when I hear him singing all these old standards. Most of All, with Keb Mo is super. We are blessed to have BJ still singing and sharing his sweet soul with us. I feel like he has long been overlooked and not given the praise he deserves. I hope that will change with this release. BJ please keep singing for us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living Room Sessions is a must have! April 5, 2013
Format:Audio CD
BJ Thomas is in fine form with his new release. His voice is still as strong, smooth, and romantic as ever! The Living Room Sessions is a delightfully refreshing acoustic take on the classic songs that BJ brought to life originally. The really fun twist is that these classics are now duets with very talented people like, Keb Mo, Richard Marx, Sara Niemitz, Lyle Lovett and Vince Gill. This has already become my favorite CD to listen to, and it will remain a favorite for me. This is a must have for music lovers everywhere! Get yours today ... You won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Relax and be amazed! April 3, 2013
Format:Audio CD
I have been a fan of B.J. Thomas since 1967, when I bought my first LP as a teenager, his "Tomorrow Never Comes". I have been "hooked" on Thomas' vocal stylings since the needle hit the groove on that vinyl. Through the years, in concert and on all recordings, he has never ceased to amaze me. His voice gets richer and more beautiful as time passes.

This newest project, "The Living Room Sessions", from Nashville based Wrinkled Records is an outstanding refreshing update of some of B.J.'s biggest hits. The guest artists on the duets blend well and add new dimensions. I would have never thought I would hear a duet between Isaac Slade, Keb 'Mo or Richard Marx with B.J., but they surprisingly mesh very well. Newcomers Sarah Niemetz and Etta Britt add raw, bluesy tones. Vince Gill shines with B.J. on "I Just Can't Help Believin'".

Personally, I think this CD is a must-have for any music lover. I hope and pray that Wrinkled Records continues this awesome walk with B.J. with yet more projects, and new, never recorded before by B.J. songs. This man can sing it all! Bring it on! We're ready for great music!
