5.0 out of 5 stars Chris Rice Does It Again
I'm not usually a fan of instrumental albums, but I have enjoyed both of the releases in Chris Rice's Living Room Sessions series.

This CD features Chris playing his own arrangements of 12 classic Christmas carols. His piano solos are truly a pleasure to listen to. Also included is an arrangement of his soon to be classic "Welcome to Our World." If you...

2.0 out of 5 stars Alright as background music, but it really cut it
This is alright music for background during Christmas parties, but when you listen closely there is nothing technically great going on here, just simple music played in the simplest way. A little mundane for my tastes, however fans of easy listening and elevator music may enjoy this as background music to be talked over.

I'm not usually a fan of instrumental albums, but I have enjoyed both of the releases in Chris Rice's Living Room Sessions series.

This CD features Chris playing his own arrangements of 12 classic Christmas carols. His piano solos are truly a pleasure to listen to. Also included is an arrangement of his soon to be classic "Welcome to Our World." If you aren't familiar with this song, check out his first release ("Deep Enough to Dream"), Michael W. Smith's "Christmastime," or Amy Grant's "A Christmas to Remember" for the words. It's an incredible reminder of Jesus' sacrifice to come and die for us and belongs in this collection of Spiritual Christmas music.

This CD is the perfect background music for an office or Christmas party or to play anytime during the season. I will be mixing it into my Christmas music for years to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simply Christmas, December 17, 2001
This review is from: Living Room Sessions: Christmas (Audio CD)
Chris Rice, an excellent songwriter and singer, puts his talent to work in an instrumental album featuring Christmastime favorites. The arrangements he has chosen are simple and straightforward. Rice never overpowers the listener with flash or by "showing off."

It is titled "Living Room Sessions" and unfortunately it sounds that way. The mix seems to hold the high end more dominately, and that could be because of the simple piano arrangement. In a quiet setting it is noticeable.

This CD would make a great addition to your Christmas music collection. Good for background music and for easy listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, October 22, 2004

This CD is great BECAUSE its simple piano music. Chris Rice is an excellent musician and I would recommend this CD to anyone who loves Christmas music... anyone who thinks this CD is terrible, obviously has no musical taste whatsoever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful interpretation, December 3, 2004
This review is from: Living Room Sessions: Christmas (Audio CD)
I loved this CD-- the music is simple, but not simplistic. The renditions of "O Holy Night" and "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" were very well done in particular. Rice is a great musician, and this CD lives up to his usual standard of excellence.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chris did a good job of bringing Christmas memories to us, October 17, 2002
This review is from: Living Room Sessions: Christmas (Audio CD)
Our local radio station keep playing cuts of songs by Chris Rice and I keep on hearing a sound that I enjoyed hearing time after time again, so I decided to jump on the bandwgon and buy one of his cds. Well the verdict is in and i'm pleased.

For a moment I would like for you to imagine what Christmas would be like without the beautiful tunes that tell it's marvelous story. I fear that Chritmas would be very dreary without it's wonderful story of song.

For this project Chris a pretty good job with his piano. I do however feel like he should have used a little more complex approach to these arrangments. The arrangements as they stand are a little weak. I feel they need a little more pep. Even at this present level this cd is not too far from being great.

As far as the repertoure goes, it was a great one. I really liked the songs performed. They were all my personal favorites.

Do yourself a favor and add this cd to your other Christmas cds.

I'm not sure what ax a few of the other reviewers have to grind, but this is a fantastic Christmas album. It is exactly what it claims to be, which is a simple recording of Chris Rice playing some Christmas songs on the piano in his living room.

It is not a particularly brilliant or earth-shattering musical powerhouse, but it provides a lovely set of Christmas music that is great to play at work or as background music for a Christmas party. And there are enough intricacies and personal touches that Rice includes to keep it interesting.

I would not suggest that anyone buy this album with the expectation that their mind will be blown. But it is an absolutely delightful offering of simple carols that will surely augment anyone's Christmas music collection!!

This is the most beautiful collection of Christmas music set to piano. It is piano only and makes for a wonderful CD to play at parties, family get-togethers, or just for those cold winter nights at home. I highly recommend this item to anyone who loves piano music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Meditations for Christmas, April 26, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Living Room Sessions: Christmas (Audio CD)
This piano music only CD is a great addition to your Christmas collection. At Christmas parties, you can certainly play this music in the background and not be encumbered by words. I take this CD to nursing homes, children's gatherings . . anywhere people are. These Christmas carols are well loved. The music behind them is simple - almost inviting the listener to sing along. How much better can a CD be that invites you to sing along? Christmas is so busy and stressful - that simple melodies and choruses break the stress. Nicely done!
