Simple, engrossing, and thought-provoking,

This review is from: Living Sanely in an Insane World: Philosophy for Real People (Hardcover)
Most self-help books are long and take effort to get to the point. This book is great because it is so simplified, you get exactly what you need in a few sentences, rather than a few paragraphs. He makes no excuses for his opinions, even admitting some readers may not agree with him (such as his ideas about God). Regardless of this, his words are common sense, backed up by quotes from philosophers, celebrities, authors, and athletes. I had a hard time putting it down, and I also found it opened the door to discussion with others about their opinions about life and values.

If you have questions about how to improve your life, but you aren't the type who would normally buy self help books, this is the one for you. (Also, I would note that some of the information that appears on this page is not correct - the book is actually 118 pages long, not 80.) There are over 100 quotes in the book, along with interesting viewpoints on a wide range of topics, including marriage, sex, investing, the purpose of life, and much more - many of the viewpoints about how to live sanely are quite novel - highly recommended!

This is a useless little book that is more opinion than substance. Occasionally, there are insightful comments that might be helpful, but more often than not, the author throws up a few quotes that seem to illustrate his less than thoughtful opinion.

Great common sense!,

Sometimes, it's hard to see the obvious, and even harder to see the not so obvious. John uses plain old common sense when he talks about - life. The yeah-I-knew-that obvious and the why-didn't-I think-of-that-before obvious. A great read. Lots of great quotes.
