This is one of the best books I have ever read. If you can find a copy, get a hold of this book to learn about how these counter culturists lived their lives in health and peace. Some folks may believe that the Nearing's style is bolder than they are used to, and this is because these people did not sit in ivy towers writing theories, they lived their lives based on their principles, which is admirable in my eyes.

This is a great book. I first read it in the 70s and have reread it several times since. A lot of good lessons that we would do well to heed today.

I remember reading this book many years ago. It is about a couple who decided that they could simplify their lives by changing the way they lived. My future daughter in law wants to live in a yurt and go off the power grid. I thought this book would be a good choice for her, since it is about a simpler way of life which is still relevant today, especially with global warming and population growth stressing the environment. My son tells me his finace is devouring the book. It's an "oldie but goodie." Check it out.

I first read this book in the early 70s and found their stories of living off the earth and of building their house with the materials on their land quite inspiring. This book ignited in me a lifelong interest in the outdoors and a dream to live simply, however difficult that may be nowadays.

It is amazing how the principles that the Nearing's lived by in the early 1900's can still apply today and we would be better off doing it. Especially, being a slave to the interest rates! which I so am today. living beyond my means is not a good thing.

I bought this book after reading a reference to it in a magazine article. Absolutely fascinating to read of a couple who were so "modern" in their thinking and living. I've already reaffirmed choices I make each day in how I live. I am now making plans to steer my life's direction from today forward. So glad to have bought this one and I'm looking forward to reading the whole thing.

Very informative and glad I was able to obtain a copy. It truly reveals how far we as a nation have gotten away from the very basics of truly good living. The book was in excellent condition.

Thanks!
