5.0 out of 5 stars Learn what retired life is all about May 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Bob helps to frame the realities of living a satisfying retirement with real life feedback from those currently retired as well as planning to retire. He asks the pertinent questions that all retirees should contemplate as they prepare for their own personal retirement. The candid answers shared can perhaps help those of us preparing to retire to better see what may lie ahead. At the end of each chapter, Bob summarizes key points and shares his personal experiences.

I have thought long and hard about my eventual retirement and one of my biggest fears has been running out of things to do and becoming bored. One of Bob's chapters asks, "Are you bored or does your time fill up?" Based upon the almost universal feedback that there is typically not enough time in their retired days to do all they want, I am feeling better about what may await when I do retire!

I recommend this book to all those looking for a reality check into what retirement is all about whether you are just beginning your journey or well on your way.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Takeaway "Attitude is Everything." December 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
My husband and I have not yet retired, and I found the way Bob Lowry structured his book, with specific questions followed by a variety of answers, most fascinating.
Every issue seems to have been covered and studied from a variety of angles, including the male and female perspectives.
As someone who doesn't budget, but believes that you can always find a solution to a problem, even if it means moving to a foreign country where living costs are cheaper, I felt comforted by Lowry's final observation. Having a positive attitude plays a huge role in how you perceive your retirement. You can have tons money, but with a negative attitude towards life you won't allow yourself to live a satisfying retirement.

Most interviews you hear, see, or read start at a point in time, go through all the questions, and end when the questions run out. Bob shuffles the deck. So what you get is all the answers to one question at one time. For example, when he asks what people miss about work, you get 30 answers all in one place followed by a summary by Bob. I found that refreshing and easy to follow.

After 500 blog posts in over three years time, Bob has had a lot of conversations about the issues presented. Consequently, I stood up to take notice when he said he found surprises. If he was surprised, I need to pay attention! I won't spoil all the results for you, but I was delighted to find out that many folks are voluntarily taking retirement, particularly after the financial hit of 2008-2010.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read with real answers. September 13, 2014
By Jeff F
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I very much enjoyed hearing real answers from real people to those questions we all have (or should have) about retirement. Many of the answers were surprising and many caused me to pause and consider. This e-book is definitely worth the price. I plan to reread it periodically for new insights. I would have one small suggestion if this is ever updated: proofread for typos. And if this is ever updated with new material I will buy it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars The voice of experience May 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found this a little confusing at first with its organization around a questionnaire and the responses of a number of retirees. I got to enjoy it though and appreciate the wide variety of opinions from the respondents and the various satisfying activities they are engaged in. I also enjoyed Bob's summaries after each question and his personal insights.

I recently retired and certainly went through the joy and freedom stage but lately was wondering "What now?" While reading this book I jotted down three pages of ideas of how to spend my time. The comments from the retirees and the author were very helpful. Very helpful book!
