Another feather in Sting's cap.,

This review is from: The Living Sea: Soundtrack From The IMAX Film (Audio CD)
I now feel somewhat deprived at not having seen this IMAX movie as of yet as if the soundtrack is anything to go by, it must be fantastic. I bought this CD purely because of Sting's name on the label and was pleasantly suprised to notice that the music herein differs from anything I have heard from any of his studio albums. Many of the songs seem to be in a similar vein to "St. Agnes and the burning train" from the Soul Cages and it is good to see the original album version included along with Fragile. The entire album is full of relaxing ocean music with a twist of some of Sting's earlier work interspersed for good measure. As others have stated, some existing songs such as "Why Should I Cry For You" have been taken and given acoustic interludes which helps them flow seemlessly with the rest of the album. The whole CD can be played from start to finish easily and it is almost therapeutic in nature. From what I know, Sting did in fact write all the modified songs on this CD with the exception of the last two and that can only be a good thing. I can't really add much to what has already been said in terms of the quality and nature of of the songs included on this CD except that it really is a must buy. I would heartily endorse it to anyone interested in this style of music, and certainly to any Sting fan. My only gripe? Hard to spoil this flowing praise but what the hell is that live version of "One World is Enough / Love is the Seventh Wave" from Bring on the Night doing here!? It seems so absolutely of context....

Not that you necessarily want to hear about my life, but I first began to regard Sting as a serious songwriter when a former love of mine sent me the song, "Mad About You." I was so swept away by the passion in the words. I didn't even know the music yet, but the words were so powerful that I had to hear the music. It seemed every time I went to find it at the music store, the album it was on was out of stock. Then someone sent me a piece of it from the soundtrack of "The Living Sea" and I thought it was so beautiful. As a guitar player, I loved the acoustic guitar woven into the beginning of the piece and knew you could only get it on this soundtrack. I was lucky enough to find the CD when out visiting a friend in Georgia. I knew what a treat I was in for where "Mad About You" was concerned, but when I heard the rest of the soundtrack, I just melted. From the moment the opening strains of "Fragile" are heard, you are brought into a decadent and sensual world of sound. I don't know that words can actually express just how picturesque this music truly is. All I can say is, buy it! Buy it! BUY IT! Then go home, light some candles, close your eyes and let yourself drift away on a web of gorgeous melody. Someone in an earlier review mentioned that "One World/Love is the Seventh Wave" seems a bit out of place among the other titles, but I think perhaps another way of looking at it is that it provides a little change of pace. But soon you are plunged right back into the lush, sensual mood of the other pieces. Sting's music here is beautiful and infectious. At times melancholy, at times lively, at times thought provoking... this album will really take your mind and soul on a spiritual journey. If you are a fan of Sting, you will love the special interludes. They do not draw away from the power of the original versions but rather, they infuse them with even more beauty if that is possible. If you are not a fan of Sting, I can almost promise you will become one after this album becomes a staple in your CD collection. This is not an album for everyone, but if you love music that takes you away, helps you relax, puts you more in tune with your spirit and the beauty of the world around you, I could not recommend a CD more highly. Two side notes, someone stole my computer and unfortunately, this CD was still in it so I am purchasing it again. Yes, it is that good! And, Amazon also carries the DVD and VHS of the IMAX film "The Living Sea." It is a wonderful film. While no doubt, it would have been even more phenomenal on an IMAX screen, it is worth your while to pick up the home version.

I knew even while watching this IMAX film that I had to have the soundtrack. I went straight to the gift shop to buy it, and haven't stopped listening to it for 3 years! Sting's music will soothe you and transport you to somewhere wonderful. Even if you haven't seen the film, the music speaks volumes. This CD makes me nostalgic for my time spent in the islands, and I know it will do the same for you. All of the tracks evoke feelings of the sea and of beautiful, tropical places. As opposed to other reviewers, I didn't mind the live track, as it has a tropical feel to it and tells us that we need to respect and preserve the beauty of the sea. The CD just flows with incredible power. It's one of Sting's best works, and easily one of my all time favorites. Buy this CD!! I know that you'll enjoy it!

If you're a fan of Sting's work and you don't have this CD, then you are missing out! Sure, some of the songs appear on his other albums, but these Living Sea versions will make your soul dance and your spirit soar. I listen to it almost every day in my design studio. Whatever you're doing, this CD will make you feel alive! It's an absolutely beautiful body of work that will transform a bad mood or a bad day. Get it and enjoy life under the sea!

I love the sea, but I am unfortunately landlocked in Ohio. This CD honestly takes me to the bottom of the ocean everytime I listen to it. It is a great escape from the cold winters. The movie was great, but it's more fun to let your imagination go and let each song take you to a different place. Listen to the CD and you'll know what I mean. This was my first introduction to Sting, and after buying some CD's and seeing him in concert, this is still my favorite! This CD is packed with so much talent. I'm happy to read that others appreciate it as much as I do. It's not very well known around here, and I wondered if anyone else loved it as much as me. If you are an ocean lover, this CD is for you! (it also helps with insomnia). This is my favorite CD of ALL-TIME! If you never buy another Sting CD, buy this one!

I first heard this music from a friend in graduate school. I was already a big fan of Sting's music at the time and I really enjoyed the theme of the disc. Then I went to Europe and saw the IMAX film in Barcelona. It was in Spanish, which I understand only passably. So I was more tuned in to the amazing views and the great music and how well they seemed to intertwine. Once home, I bought the disc and listened to it regularly for a month or so. After a while, the repetition gets to me. It works fine with the film, but on it's own it's not quite there. Sting is not on all of the tracks either, so if you're looking for the real thing, go get 'Nothing Like the Sun' or 'Soul Cages'.

This is "delicious" music. I especially love the instrumentals on track #12, Jellyfish Lake. This music really does conjur images of a warm tropical secluded beach. I play this often when my 7th grade students are doing quiet map-drawing work. They settle right down just to listen.

Sting songs with a twist,
This review is from: The Living Sea: Soundtrack From The IMAX Film (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful relaxing and image provoking album. I have never seen the Imax film, but with the music, along with the colourful photos in the booklet, I can imagine how wonderful the film must be. This album contains some of Stings most well-loved songs, either album tracks or beautiful instrumental versions, plus 2 originals written by Steve Wood. A lot of the music has a Spanish/flamenco feel to it, yet it still gives the feeling of being in the tropics or under the ocean. If you are a Sting fan, or a new-age fan, or a jazz fan, or just a music-lover in general, you will love this album...guaranteed.

I bought this on impulse in a museum giftshop and have never regretted it. I am an art teacher - if you are an artist and need music to work to, this is some of the most enjoyable music I have ever bought. Even the kids enjoy it! "Fragile" is the only song I skip - I usually go straight to #2. But all of the songs are woven together in a tapestry of wonderful music, so don't skip around. Some may be based on the same songs, but are done differently. Many are instrumentals. We play it while driving - we go to the ocean. I didn't realize how many of Sting's songs had to do with the ocean until I listened to this. Some may say that "Love is the Seventh Wave" doesn't belong, but I disagree. It wakes you up if you are too relaxed, and it has a good beat. Very tropical. Buy it!

...from various Sting-songs, and the prodution sounds inspired and is indeed inspiring itself. The sound is crystal clear, and especially the guitar. These are some of the best "adaptions" of Stings' songs I've ever heard. There really isn't much more to say other than I am so glad to have added both "the living sea " and "dolphins" (same consept) to my Sting-collection. I have the IMAX-films as well, and the sound of these songs is even better in DTS. Highly recommended!
