5.0 out of 5 stars The Shadow Begins - with a Jim Steranko Cover!, March 27, 2010
This review is from: The Living Shadow (The Shadow : The Master of Darkness, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
From the opening scene with The Shadow grabbing life out of the jaws of death, this is how The Shadow began as the figure working against crime. Maxwell Grant's first Shadow book is an atmospheric story with enough action and mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat. Plus the first of many fine covers by artist Jim Steranko.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super Reader, June 11, 2008
This review is from: The Living Shadow (Kindle Edition)
A fabulous, atmospheric opening to this book, when The Shadow appears and rescues the despondent Harry Vincent and gives him a new purposes. Multiple threads run throughout, from the points of view of both the protagonists, and the antagonists. There is also a Shadow point of view, but only observational. Throw in a death trap, an excellent car chase, a fun punchup in a lunch wagon, of all places, and a not so obvious denouement, and this is a very pleasing experience.
