5.0 out of 5 stars Good Book - quick overview of the illness
I had been looking for a current book on BD and a book that was for someone on my end. My husband has be DX with DB since he was 18 and had a relaspe after we were just married. Before that he was in remission and I never saw his mood swings. This book is the perfect book to educate someone who does not have the illness and wants to learn more about it.

I guess I'll be the lone dissenter and say I didn't care of this book. I understand that bipolar disorder is a disease, but it seemed like the only advice given was, "You'll just have to forgive them and try to deal with it!" Wife cheated on you with two of your friends? Doesn't matter. Your friend gets together with your husband? Doesn't matter. They have a disease...

The book covers everything you would want to know about BD, I really liked the descriptions of the symptoms and the little story's from actually people. Most of the websites and organizations sited in the book I know about, but there were a few new ones for me to discover.

It was comforting to read that what my husband goes through daily is his illness and not him just being lazy or forgetful on purpose. I told my husband he should read the book after I am done, maybe he will learn a little more about his illness.

The book is an easy read, this is the first book on BD that I have finished. I could not stop reading this book, the only reason I did not finish it the first day, was I needed to go to work the next day.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have questions this book has all the answers!, July 17, 2010
This review is from: Living With Someone Who's Living With Bipolar Disorder: A Practical Guide for Family, Friends, and Coworkers (Paperback)
I had the pleasure of interviewing Chelsea Lowe and Dr. Bruce Cohen on my show Wisdom, Love and Magic! Both Chelsea and Dr. Cohen are very knowledgeable and empathic individuals who have written a wonderful 'how to manual' for bipolar disorder. It is an excellent resource chock full of incredibly valuable information that everyone who is suffering from, or in any way dealing with, bipolar disorder must have!

Living with Someone Who's Living with Bipolar Disorder: A Practical Guide for Family, Friends and Coworkers provides a warm book on how to handle changing moods, ups and downs, and other behaviors. It's designed as a non-technical, everyday coping guide and offers case histories and stories of how others developed effective coping strategies. I would like to have known more about HOW the disease works, if the person with biploar disorder knowinging engages in awful behavior and remembers it. I've had a friend who has bipolar disorder do some awful things, and I would have appreciated more than just "they can't help it. They're sick. Move on."

Good descriptions, good advice. Very helpful.

I got this for my Father who is concerned about a family member (not me this time).

Seem to be a very good book to read on the subject.

I bought this book because I have bipolar II, and have had issues in my close relationships that I want to understand and improve upon. The book offers many relationship stories, and through them I was able to gain an appreciation of how I look at and feel in relationships as well as how my partners may have felt. The book offers partners strategies and hope that they can understand and maintain healthy relationships for themselves and with their loved ones.

I interviewed Dr. Bruce Cohen and well-known writer Chelsea Lowe for an article in [...]. While I do not live with a partner with bipolar, I still found the book fascinating and full of great advice. It is probably one of the best written books on this topic available today and I would highly recommend it. Here is a link to my interview with these two fascinating authors: [...]
