Review

'Erin's courageous account of her own journey dealing with the aftermath of sexual abuse is powerful and emotionally honest. It provides hope to other victims of abuse that they, too, can not only survive these terrible events but also heal and thrive.'

—Teresa Huizar

Erin's words are powerful & vulnerable. She shares the horrors that she experienced as a child, her struggle with an eating disorder, her anger, grief, fears with eloquence & grace. While she was able to remember each detail with complete clarity, she was able to share the experience of her little friend who couldn't. Erin has struggled, raged, journeled, & journeyed to the point of forgiveness. It is a beautiful story of the grace & power of God!
I am so not at that point in my life or my jouney, but she gave me hope that I might be able to forgive someday. Never once did I feel condemned, by Erin's words, for where I am today ~in the midst of anger & rage at what happened to the innocence of my childhood. She let me know there is a time for everything. This is a journey that will be long, but there will be a time when the nightmares, flashback, body memories, will settle & I will rise victoriously for having continued the journey through the pain.
This is an epidemic that must end! It happens all the time! It doesn't discriminate & it has to STOP!!! We need to support Erin's Law, so that children in our schools will be educated about safe & unsafe touch, good secrets & bad secrets! Erin is the voice for so many who have been silenced & are still trying to find theirs!
It's an amazing book! Everyone should read it, especially those who have been abused, the one who love them, & those who work with them.

This is by far my favorite sexual abuse book ever. It is one of the most inspirational books I have ever read. With everything that Erin has been through, and to see where she is today...it definitely inspires me and gives me the courage to fight my own demons of childhood sexual abuse. She has been through a lifetime of pain and has turned it into something good. She inspires me to do the same. Erin and her book are absolutely amazing and inspiring...I just want to hug her and congratulate her for making it through what she has been through and making it into something good. Way to go Erin!

I just finished reading Living for Today and Wow! It is an amazing story of survival and will be a help to anyone surviving sexual abuse start taking the steps needed to start healing. I learned a lot from this young woman that had the courage to heal in her 20's rather than living in denial into her 30's and 40's. I wish I would've had something like this to read and help me twenty years ago! I am thankful to Erin for helping so many. I highly recommend this book for anyone especially to anyone that has been sexually abused or knows someone that has - or is married to someone that has. Please read this book if you've been sexually abused as you will see how important it is to not remain silent.

Erin Merryn is a hero. Reading this book is a must for anyone who has been through sexual abuse, rape, or childhood trauma. Erin is completely transparent about the struggles she went through in confronting the memories and beginning the process of healing. The book is also interesting because it shows the response of her childhood best friend also, who repressed her memories of the abuse. Erin's book is inspiring because it acknowledges the pain her abuser caused, but does not stop there. It is hopeful, and encourages other survivors to keep going on the journey of moving past the abuse and learning healthy ways to overcome the negative feelings and memories. I have appreciated both of Erin's books, and suggest also reading her first book "Stolen Innocence" if you haven't already. This book would be a good resource for family members of someone who has been through sexual abuse, in order to understand some of what they might be going through inside.

I have read both of Erin's books. This book would be great even if read alone, but it is even more powerful when read after her first. This book picks up where the second book ends. However, it's not just the continuation of a story. It talks about the struggles survivors continue to face; what happens when new obstacles are throw in your path; and the journey to forgiveness. This is a definite must read for survivors, who I'm sure can relate to Erin's struggles, as well as find hope in her progress. Relatives, friends and anyone working with survivors should read it too. The book includes just enough of the details to let you see Erin's raw emotions. But it also describes perfectly the emotions and thoughts that follow the recovery process. I applaud Erin for her courage in speaking up.

I read Erin's book a few weeks ago, and I was absolutely astounded by how "real" she was about her experiences. "I am who I am" is what comes shining through - no pretense, no "feel sorry for me", no "I've got all the answers and you should do what I did". She just very simply and honestly shared her very difficult story, how it affected her immediate and extended family, and what she has done to work through all the layers, moving from victim, to survivor, to advocate, educator and conqueror.

The healing that has taken place in this young woman is amazing. Living for today has inspired me to continue my healing and find my own voice and my purpose. I have known God had great plans for me but I kept it from taking place because I continued to shut down the healing process before it was complete. Through therapy and reading books like this one I am finally meeting the little girl I left behind all those years ago, and she is learning how to speak again. This is a difficult and amazing journey but one well worth all the struggles. I wrote my own book a few years ago after reading Erin's first book, but only recently published it as an ebook--Journey of Hope. Erin is such an inspiration and I will follow her and support her in her crusade for Erin's Law in any way possible. Please read her books...they just like their author are amazing testaments of faith and hope!
