5.0 out of 5 stars The good stuff
Old Promise Ring fans might find this record lacking focus or fire, but the reason the boys made it (accoridng to the Kindercore Records site) is because they were tired of the intensity of Promise Ring's material. It's fragmentary, sparse, reflective, creative, peaceful, good music. I can't explain it fully, but the record is personified by the dog on the front cover...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but not up to the Promise Ring quality
I must say I was a little disappointed by this cd. Being a fan of the Promise Ring probably set my sights a bit high, but some of the songs on this album just seem to drone on, never seeming to quite get started. It is, however, a wonderful album to listen to when you're in the mood for something mellow or to read to. I do enjoy, just not as much as a lot of other...

It's a lovely piece of work by some very competent songwriters.

I must admit, the first time I listened to this Album I was bored and had to turn it off. But one night I was in the mood for something Mellow and put this back on for another whirl, boy was I suprised to find out that all the songs were amazing! I guess you have to be in the right mood, but after that I coudn't stop listening to it and all the songs stuck with me. These songs also have a lot of feeling in them, like "These Dudes, they got a band", and "Little White Crosses." Personally, I think this album is amazing but it may take a listen or two.

It is, however, a wonderful album to listen to when you're in the mood for something mellow or to read to. I do enjoy, just not as much as a lot of other things I've listened to and would prefer to this. Good tracks: little white crosses, when the weekend comes, lightning tattoos and old blue. I would recommend this to fans of the Promise Ring's more mellow, older material (except the lyrics aren't as good, either).
