I spotted this book under the New Arrivals section at the library today and immediately appreciated it for its comprehensiveness. 5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant... Even for Meat Lovers!, December 15, 2009
This review is from: Living Vegan For Dummies (Paperback)
This book is laid out in simple, easy to read sections that give everyone tools to eat healthier and be happier about their food choices. Whether you are a meat lover looking for heart healthier choices, or a person who has moved totally away from animal based products, this book has much to offer. What I particularly enjoyed was how author Alexandra Jamieson approached the subject of Living Vegan in a way that makes it accessible for readers with all levels of interest. She also is extremely skillful at offering ideas and approaches that will allow vegans and non-vegans to enjoy each other's company at meal times. This book is filled with useful tips and strategies, recipes and cooking tips. It addresses a wide range of things including menus and meal planning, cooking at home and eating out, spices and storing food, supplements and snacks, dealing with finicky eaters, weight loss and even how to counter what commercials are teaching your kids. Ms. Jamieson excels at delivering the content in a relaxed non-judgmental tone while educating readers in the benefits and ease of Living Vegan. By the way, this may sound silly but even the index in the back of the book is interesting! Get your own copy and see.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Thought Vegan Diet Could Be So Easy & Fun!, December 8, 2009
This review is from: Living Vegan For Dummies (Paperback)
Prior to reading this book I thought becoming vegan would be a task way to difficult to handle. Boy was I wrong! This insightful and entertaining book draws a clear map in answering questions about becoming and maintaining a vegan diet and lifestyle in a easy and fun way.

In a clear concise way the chapters outline answers to the "whys", "how tos" and "now what" questions I had about a vegan lifestyle. I write lifestyle because that is just one of many things I discovered about veganism. In that this is a community of conscious, spirited, passionate individuals who are choosing how they want to live their lives and not just mechanically filling up on market promoted choices for their diet and product purchases.

One of the most surprising discoveries I learned from reading "Living Vegan for Dummies" is that I actually eat much more vegan and choose more vegan products than I had realized. Tweaking here and there, introducing more healthy foods and products is not a huge leap for me and the benefit I reap is a bountiful, delicious, healthy lifestyle that feels great!

I highly recommend picking up your copy of "Living Vegan For Dummies" today so you too can discover alternate ways to eat and purchase goods that support you and your family in living in a healthy, satisfying and meaningful way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even I can live more Vegan!, December 14, 2009
This review is from: Living Vegan For Dummies (Paperback)
Thanks Alexandra for writing a book on vegan choices that made me laugh, was informative and didn't make me feel like a bad person for the way I had been living. I admit it I was worried a book about veganisim would be preachy. But no, not one sermon! I thought that I was more Vegan curious than thinking of going full on vegan. Then I realized, I didn't really even know what a full on vegan life might look like. Well, I found out there are foods I really enjoy eating and have been eating on a regular basis. I didn't have to be "weird" even to myself to take the healthful options for me, loved ones and the planet. And maybe even most importantly, I enjoyed discovering a new world view. So many surprises, to name a few: fun recipes that I look forward to trying, a great list of cosmetic companies that give me opportunities I hadn't expected to look good while I'm eating good tasty foods. Treat yourself to this wonderful book it's a well written, easy read. Buy it, read it and share it, just for the fun of it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, practical, and uplifting, January 11, 2010
This review is from: Living Vegan For Dummies (Paperback)
If you've wanted to get the well-known benefits of a vegan diet--losing weight, boosting your energy, cutting your cholesterol or blood pressure, tackling diabetes--but you were not sure how to get started, this book is the perfect primer. It covers everything you need to know, and makes it really simple. I especially appreciate the book's sense of humor. Even when touching on the details of nutrition or the challenges of eating a healthy diet in a not-so-healthy world, Alex guides the reader with such warmth and lightness that the book is really a delight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and easy to read!, December 20, 2009
This review is from: Living Vegan For Dummies (Paperback)
Who knew reading a book about becoming a vegan could be informative, fun and easy to understand. I must admit before I read this book, the thought of becoming a vegan was completely overwhelming to me. I thought "what could I possibly eat to get the proper nutrition, and how would being a vegan fit into my life". Alex answers all of these questions and more. The introduction lays out how the book is organized along with helpful hints of how to get the most out of the book.

The book includes basic menus, recipes and how to transition into living a vegan lifestyle. I had all of my questions answered and did not feel like a dummy at all.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that is curious about, or interested in becoming Vegan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for vegan wannabes, vegan curious, and vegans..., October 12, 2010
This review is from: Living Vegan For Dummies (Paperback)
Living Vegan for Dummies is a go-to for everything vegan... It's a "health" book but so much more, and anybody who cares about health, the planet, and animals should open this book. I got a copy for a non-vegan friend of mine who is enjoying experimenting with the recipes in it, and I also got this book for a pregnant vegan friend who is loving the chapter about pregnancy. As a long-time vegan, I also love this book and though I thought it would all be like a Veganism101, it's more than that too... It is thought-provoking, easy to read, and entertaining. I love this book

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive. Life-saving. Impressive., February 10, 2010
This review is from: Living Vegan For Dummies (Paperback)
This book is not only thorough, it is thoroughly enjoyable. I am calling this THE guide to a vegan lifestyle. First off, it answers the good 'ole WHY anyone should/would go vegan. Then it carefully and in a non-preachy way shows you HOW. And there are many, many solutions, ideas, great recipes, easy-access charts about where to find calcium/protein/B12, lots of fascinating research. Brilliant. Alexandra Jamieson, thank you for making it so easy to make the transition. The people, the planet and the animals thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Just what I was looking for...", February 6, 2010
This review is from: Living Vegan For Dummies (Paperback)
I don't like to think that I need a "for dummies.." book but trying to make changes
in aspects of your life such as diet & exercise is difficult.
There's so much information out there, lots of it contradictory, that it's a struggle
to figure out what to try and who to listen to. This book breaks through all this
with simple instructions on how to incorporate vegan living into your life. I wanted
to learn more about it, get recipes and give it a shot. This book helped start me
on my way in an easy to implement formula. It helped me with what to eat, where
to buy it and how to cook it. Just what i was looking for !
