While the book was based on the Holy Spirit it also took on some doctrinal issues that not everyone agrees with i.e. Tongues. It is always good to see and understand the doctrinal beliefs of others in the faith.

This review is from: Living Water: The Power of the Holy Spirit in Your Life (Paperback)
I picked this one up after spending one semester in a Baptist/Dispensational/Calvinist-leaning Bible school (and promptly went elsewhere afterwards) -and I found it a breath of fresh air! Until one goes from charismatic circles that place no limit on God's power to a school that seems to fear even the most moderate expressions of the "charismata", it's hard to truly fathom the differences in the "lenses" whith which we bring to God's truth. Some have felt that Chuck Smith, due to his opposition to extreme "Charismania" isn't even charismatic himself. Let me tell you, Chuck Smith believes in miracles- this book is proof! You have to have been where I have been to see that reality.

It's great to know in a world where the current march towards Baptistic/Calvinistic theology, which threatens to leave the church holding to no higher level of faith than the unbelieving culture around us, there are still solid, Bible-believing men such as Pastor Chuck willing to hold to the truths of the "power" that ignites the church to do the work of God. Read his accounts of miracles he himself has encountered. Read what the Bible says about the work of the Spirit in your life -and be encouraged.

This would have been 5 stars, if not for a "tangent" that Pastor Chuck goes into about the "end times." Also, I disagree with his assertion that we "don't become more like Christ by imitation". But other than that, I would much rather have people reading this than a lot of theologies out there. For deeper exploration of Biblical truths on the Spirit, read Clark Pinnock or Gordon Fee. For a great primer on the Spirit, get this. Well worth it!

4.0 out of 5 stars An oasis in the middle of the desert., February 6, 2007
By
This review is from: Living Water: The Power of the Holy Spirit in Your Life (Paperback)
There are few books written in this life that are based on

"Truth."

This book is brimming with Truth. It's easy-to-read, life changing

and can put a believer, or a non-believer, quickly on the right

"path."

Being raised catholic when I was a child, I had no clue who the

Holy Spirit was. I thought it was this far away image of God in

bird form. I had no clue of the importance of the Holy Spirit in

my daily walk. (I was simply an ignorant man. But thanks to

this rare & inspired book -- I am ignorant no more.)

This book has opened up a new and improved Godly life for me

(both as a husband, and as a man.) My life is still filled with

pain and conflict (which I believe is God's process for change

in all of us,) but now that pain & conflict leads me to the

Truth.

Thank God for Chuck Smith and this wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars God Himself, March 2, 2009
This review is from: Living Water: The Power of the Holy Spirit in Your Life (Paperback)
Here's an excerpt from this book: "The Holy Spirit is God Himself, a Person with whom you can enjoy a personal relationship. He is a Person who can speak to you and to whom you can speak. He is a Person who can guide you, who can help you, who can strengthen you, who can teach you the truth of God. The Holy Spirit is the agent through whom God works today in the world, within the church and in the lives of individual believers. That is why we need to become acquainted with the Holy Spirit."

This book will certainly help you get to know God and the ways of God through the Holy Spirit!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Holy Spirit, March 3, 2009
This review is from: Living Water: The Power of the Holy Spirit in Your Life (Paperback)
I had a lot of questions about the Holy Spirit. In this book, Chuck Smith so clearly defines and explains who the Holy Spirit is, what He does, and how He can work in my life. I am so thankful to have a Comforter to come alongside me and to empower me! If you don't think you truly understand the Holy Spirit, or if you want to learn how to have a more victorious walk, read this book. You won't regret it.

Chuck Smith does an excellent job in explaining exactly Who the Holy Spirit is, and His purpose in your life. I highly recommend to anyone who has never fully grasped full understanding. Best of all, Chuck Smith backs up what he writes with Scripture and uses simplistic analogies and examples to help you understand--whether you're a kid or have read the Bible for over 50 years.

This would be great for a pastor or anyone in clergy to teach their congregations!

So many people either take the Holy Spirit too lightly, in that they would believe that He is not working today, or they go wild and misrepresent what God is truly doing at a specific place and time. Chuck Smith gives the biblical description of the Holy Spirit and how He is moving today, even in and through your life.
