Informative, but...,
By RML (NC, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Living Well with Graves' Disease and Hyperthyroidism: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You...That You Need to Know (Living Well (Collins)) (Paperback)
I found an error in this book which makes me a little nervous about it's editing if not the entire content. On one page it specifically says that bugleweed is NOT indicated for hyperthyroidism when in fact it is one of the FEW alternative remedies that works for hyper's versus hypo's. I bought this book because of the lack of coverage for people with hyperactive thyroid so this was very annoying.
Other than that, most of this info is available on the internet free of charge.

Same old information that is available everywhere, and a lot more on HypOthyroidism than I expected to encounter. The title seems to promise some hints for the often troublesome aspects of the disease, perhaps information the author might have gleaned from patients who had learned to cope. Unfortunately this promise is not fulfilled. I learned nothing new, and most of the areas of interest to me did not offer any solutions to "living well." A waste of $.

Excellent guide for Graves Disease,
This review is from: Living Well with Graves' Disease and Hyperthyroidism: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You...That You Need to Know (Living Well (Collins)) (Paperback)
A very well researched and up to date guide for Graves diesase. Also includes what happens after treatment - which is rarely if ever discussed in other books. If you or a loved one has been diagnosised with Graves, this is the book you need.

This review is from: Living Well with Graves' Disease and Hyperthyroidism: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You...That You Need to Know (Living Well (Collins)) (Paperback)
This book is by far the most comprehensive guide to Graves' Disease and Hyperthyroidism available. It contains information, check lists, and more that you just won't find elsewhere. Written by a patient and patient advocate, but with knowledge posessed by physicians, you can't do better.

I gave this book as a gift to a friend who
was recently diagnosed with Graves. She told me it is saving her from having tons of Med's, surgery, or radiation. She is so glad I gave it to her and she is feeling so much better. Her doctor was shocked at how much better she looked just 5 weeks after her being in horrible pain and exhausted.

Living Well With Hyperthyroidism Review,
By Chezza (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Living Well with Graves' Disease and Hyperthyroidism: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You...That You Need to Know (Living Well (Collins)) (Paperback)
Was a bit disappointed with this book as the content does not cover a whole lot on "living well". This book is more for people who suspect they might have hyperthyroidism and would like to know more about it or who have been recently diagnosed but know little about it. If you are like me and have had this condition for quite sometime, then you already know the signs, symptoms and typical treatments which can all be found for free on the internet. What I had hoped it would cover were in-depth methods on how to control hyperthyroidism using alternative methods. It barely touches the surface. There is a section on the Johnson Nutritional Protocol and the theory of hyperthyroidism being a nutritional disease. Again, better off going to the ithyroid website for free to read about this. I also agree with another reviewer - too much information on hypothyroidism in a hyperthyroidism book.

Very informative an unbiased information source for helping to understand hyperthyroidism and select a treatment plan. The doctor's don't give you the information in this book.

When my symptoms lead to a hyperactive thyroid, I purchased this book. As the tests came back, I was diagnosed with Graves disease. Every person diagnosed should have this book! The information is comprehensive, and is broken down to make the complicated information easily understandable. EXCELLENT! Reading it prior to my first appt. with an endocrinologist, helped me understand what he was saying, and helped me prepare for the appointment and arrive with a list of questions.

I found Mary Shomon's book to be very helpful in trying to understand Graves' Disease and hyperthyroidism. The book is written in easy to understand terms, and is a wealth of information when faced with diagnosis and treatment options. It is a comprehensive resource for thyroid patients.
