Amazing! The author opens her heart and soul in order to offer us a roadmap by which we too can escape a tepid, predictable, dissatisfying life and find joyful surprises around every corner. Singer, at 46, the young end of the boomer scale, found herself fired from her job, divorced, the new man she was planning to marry suddenly dead of a heart attack, her only child away in college. In the midst of all this she awakens to the realization that the life she has is not the life she wants, and that the material possessions which once felt comfortable and satisfying are now only holding her back.

What she does next may be extreme for some, doable for others, but most of all make for an exciting and inspirational read. Reminiscent of Under The Tuscan Sun, with elements of The Bucket List, it is also thoroughly original. There are unexpected pleasures in this colorful, action-packed journey of discovery that I believe you won't want to miss.

Format: Paperback
At the age of forty-six, Barbara Elaine Singer faced divorce, the sudden death of her new fiance and her daughter leaving for college. At the same time, she had begun to realize that her successful corporate career was not fulfilling her soul. The journey she embarks on, both literally and spiritually, takes us on surprising twists and turns on a drive across the U.S., a move to a seaside town, a sailing trip, and ultimately a flight abroad. In the end, we are left thinking about our own lives and the choices we have made. As Barbara explains, "I think that my personality was so strong that the universe had to blow up my whole life as I knew it in order for me to change." How Barbara found new answers to life's difficult questions is touchingly portrayed in this relatable and inspirational memoir. Her book is a must-read for everyone who is at a crossroads in their own life, contemplating a change and not sure how to make their next moves.

Barbara shares her intimate life both happy and sad. She gives inspiration to those of us who have very similar experiences and want to start a new life. I was honored to actually get to meet her in Tuscany last year and hear her words of wisdom. With her inspiration I am now taking the step and going to Italy myself!!! It can be done, you just have to make up your mind to be happy. Thank you so much Barbara for giving other women the strength to do something for ourselves.

I really loved this book! I was really taken back and impressed when I started the book and Singer set the scene by fully dropping all reservations and exposing her life and her journey. It is rare to get such a real and honest account of a person at the beginning of a transformation. It allowed me to really pay attention and absorb all of the wonderful tools and ideas she uses to create an extraordinary reality. I have been lucky enough, since reading the book, to travel to Italy to meet Barbra who is actually continuing to create and live the life that she wrote about. She is the genuine article! The story and the tools she shares in the book are a unique collection to bring out the true potential of any persons life. It is a courageous and valuable work!

A most amazing book. Initially, Barbara Singer appears to be living the dream. Wife, mother, successful career women. But something isn’t right. Her life is turned upside down then, when it all seems to be working as it should, tragedy strikes. It’s a wake-up call and Singer does something about it. Most of us never would; we’d retreat into crippling grief and self-pity. Singer not only carved a new existence, filled with the possibilities of new beginnings, striking out into new places, people and situations unknown, but she documented her adventures as a way to help and inspire others. Her path isn’t for everyone but she shows that anything is possible, even happy endings, despite the seemingly-insurmountable odds.

I started Barbara Singers book as a 'light hearted read' but I got so much more. I loved her courage in the face of aversity and her ability to chop and change as the circumstances did, it really reminded me that life is an ever changing event and to get the most out of it we must adapt and keep flexible. Her journey with her dad, annoying although it must have been at times, reminded me to value my father with all his foibles too - a great lesson. In essence it was a very human story of an extraordinary journey told with courage and honesty. I believe it's a book almost all of us can relate to and it reminds us of how to live with dignity, resilience and courage. I recommend this book highly.

There are many levels and styles of writing that touch people in varying ways and degrees. I found Barbara Singer's writing to be down-to-earth and relatable. Her struggles with her father, her ego, her thoughts about "what life should be," and ultimately her quest to create a life that she wanted, resonated for me in different areas of my own life. Who of us doesn't struggle with some or all of these issues? Barbara's willingness to recognize the yearnings of her heart and soul and then do something about it is indeed inspirational. Along with giving me an enjoyable read, her book left me reflecting about my own life and what different choices I can and would like to make.
