Kelly L. Stone has been using the power of her subconscious mind to keep her writing for thirty years. A licensed professional counselor, Stone's psychological techniques have helped her write and successfully publish Time to Write, Living Write, and a number of short stories.
R. Michael Stone, MS has worked as a counselor developing subconscious communication and programming techniques for more than thirty-three years. He has appeared on numerous radio and television shows discussing the subconscious and how to use it for self-improvement. He received his MS from Auburn University.
Kelly L. Stone delivers on the promise she makes in the title. She imparts her knowledge as a counselor and an author to advise aspiring writers on the act of daily writing. Kelly encourages writers to explore their vision and reach milestones while overcoming self-doubt. Readers learn what is possible as well as how to achieve it.
Whether you are a published author or a novice writer, there are tools in Living Write that will appeal to your level of development. Kelly also shows writers what self-sabotaging systems to throw out of the tool box! Instead, techniques to improve the traits of a successful writer are introduced, such as "role-modeling" and "image incorporation."
Living Write is not an editing or grammar guide, nor does it contain writing prompts and brain teasers. What it does offer is a thorough examination of a writer's mind set, and methods to implement the positive traits into the act of daily writing.
Living Write is a must-read for anyone searching for the secret to successful writing. It includes a CD with guided meditations and daily exercises for writers. Other books in Kelly L. Stone's series are Time to Write: No Excuses, No Distractions, No More Blank Pages and Thinking Write: The Secret to Freeing Your Creative Mind. Time to Write: Professional writers reveal how to fit writing into your busy life
Writing things down, often in a personal journal, has been a long and established psychotherapeutic tools and creative psychological exercise. This practice has also proven to be an invaluable approach for authors seeking inspiration and substance for their literary efforts. "Living Write: The Secret to Inviting Your Craft Into Your Daily Life" by Kelly L. Stone is a 224-page instructional manual that will teach anyone how to make writing a daily priority, create and maintain enthusiasm for their writing activities, gain confidence in their abilities as a writer, and establish a professionalism in their writing quite distinctive from those who simply sit down on occasion to write something. Of special note is a comprehensive program specifically constructed to overcome and eliminate negative writing habits. Enhanced with an accompanying CD, "Living Write: The Secret to Inviting Your Craft Into Your Daily Life" will prove to be useful for the novice seeking to establish good writing habits, as well as more seasoned authors seeking to tap the power of their subconscious mind and harness it to their writing agendas and projects.
Writing is more than putting words down on paper. It is a mind set. Kelly L. Stone's new book explores the possibilities of thinking and working like a writer on a daily basis. With all the wonderful advice that she gives, you will become a successful writer, thinking like a writer and doing what a writer does. That is a goal all aspiring writers should be working towards. This book should be on all writer's bookshelves, new and seasoned writers alike.
Living Write by Kelly L. Stone is a unique addition to the category of writing how-to books, focusing more on the writing life itself than the actual crafting of sentences, character development, and plot. Living Write follows Stone's Thinking Write, a book that focuses on methods of tapping into the powerful subconscious mind to get ideas and inspiration for writing projects. Living Write is based in the many of the same psychological theories but focuses more on motivation and establishing a writing life.
Core to the concepts in Living Write is the thought around making writing a part of the writer's daily life. The most important message in the book? Writers write. Done. The first part of the book establishes this precedent and then moves on to help potential writers rid themselves of some of the blocks that may be hurdles to their writing careers. Stone explains how to establish a positive writer self-image and design a vision of success plan with goals and milestones along the way.
The second section of Living Write provides some valuable tools for overcoming doubt and fear. Stone describes how to use other writers as role models for the reader's own success, not carbon-copying the successful author, but rather instill in yourself some of the character traits that helped the author achieve success. Many of the concepts in Living Write follow the "fake it `til you make it" mentality, and this is where Living Write loses some of its credibility. Stone is a firm believer in the power of affirmations, and there is no doubt that these are proven techniques. However, it seems counterproductive to stand in front of a mirror and lie to yourself, telling yourself, "I am a best-selling writer," or "I am a published author," when that is not the case.... I would rather see more realistic affirmations such as, "I will be a published author." What Stone seems to be condoning are lies, used to trick the reader into feeling a false sense of success when, in fact, the work has not yet been done to achieve that success. I am not sure how that would motivate anyone.
Similar to Thinking Write, Stone delves into some interesting techniques used to tap into the subconscious mind in the third section of the book. While I am a firm believer in the power of the subconscious mind and have found great success using some of the techniques in Thinking Write to generate ideas, again, it feels as though Stone is teaching her readers how to trick themselves into believing they are writers.
The reality is that writers write, and that message is repeated throughout the book. However, writing should be fun. If it is so difficult for some people to see themselves as writers, and if they need to trick themselves by using psychological techniques, perhaps they should seek out another calling. Maybe they just aren't meant to write.Read more ›
