I'm currently living in Italy and purchased this book for additional ideas on how to make the most of my time here. I am very disappointed with many of the chapters as they seem nothing more then common sense and have little to do with transitioning to a new country. The author's coaching ideas are to help you build confidence and find direction by building on your personal life and really has little to do with how to become active in a new culture. More than 1/3 of the book consists of empty "work" pages to help develop an "action plan" which seem very juvenile to me..."make a gratitude journal" "define your strengths" "relation with my partner" then you are asked to write "my powerful new vision" after each chapter with countless blank pages to fill in. It's more of a self help book for the young professional person trying to figure out who they are and has little to do with living in a new country. There was nothing profound, engaging or insightful about this book and I felt it had very little to offer me while living in Italy.

Living Your Best Life Abroad is a gem. Compassionate and realistic, it also provides detailed practical tools. This book works best for women who are ready to take the plunge - in this case to take responsibility for their own lives - and move on. With a step by step blueprint for moving forward during the difficult experience of being an expat spouse this book will help many women rise from despair to the opportunity inherent in change. Before I started my own company, School Choice International, when living on an overseas assignment, I literally I shed many tears on my laundry room floor. I would have loved to have had this book to help me get to the other side more quickly.

Liz Perelstein, School Choice International

Jeanne Heinzer has captured the keys issues facing families relocating their lives internationally. She has related personal experiences to the various stages and challenges faced particularly by the accompanying partner and provides strategies to help with maintaining identity and sense of self amongst the many pressures and needs of other family members.
I would highly recommend this book as a fantastic resource to women and families on the move, it gives you a great sense that you are not the only one who has been through all this and is very supportive in the way it gives practical exercises to coach yourself.

This book is an excellent guide for women moving abroad, for partners, and for professionals who are coordinating international assignments. The book is an ensemble of expertise combining personal experiences, in depth knowledge, and professional expertise. Jeanne Heinzer was successful in putting together a guide book for women living and women planning to live abroad. The contributors of different background brought their expertise from different disciplines adding value to this book. The book is reader friendly and easy to navigate through. Muna Alyusuf

This is one of the best books I have ever seen that helps accompanying partners, expat wives, trailing spouses, call them what you will, to create a life they love abroad. Packed with ideas and exercises, case studies and expert opinions, this really is fab.
