I'm currently living in Italy and purchased this book for additional ideas on how to make the most of my time here. I am very disappointed with many of the chapters as they seem nothing more then common sense and have little to do with transitioning to a new country. The author's coaching ideas are to help you build confidence and find direction by building on your personal life and really has little to do with how to become active in a new culture. More than 1/3 of the book consists of empty "work" pages to help develop an "action plan" which seem very juvenile to me..."make a gratitude journal" "define your strengths" "relation with my partner" then you are asked to write "my powerful new vision" after each chapter with countless blank pages to fill in. It's more of a self help book for the young professional person trying to figure out who they are and has little to do with living in a new country. There was nothing profound, engaging or insightful about this book and I felt it had very little to offer me while living in Italy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for families on the move, July 7, 2010
This review is from: Living Your Best Life Abroad: Resources, tips and tools for women accompanying their partners on an international move (The Reality Guide Series) (Paperback)
Living Your Best Life Abroad is a gem. Compassionate and realistic, it also provides detailed practical tools. This book works best for women who are ready to take the plunge - in this case to take responsibility for their own lives - and move on. With a step by step blueprint for moving forward during the difficult experience of being an expat spouse this book will help many women rise from despair to the opportunity inherent in change. Before I started my own company, School Choice International, when living on an overseas assignment, I literally I shed many tears on my laundry room floor. I would have loved to have had this book to help me get to the other side more quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all considering relocation, May 25, 2009
This review is from: Living Your Best Life Abroad: Resources, tips and tools for women accompanying their partners on an international move (The Reality Guide Series) (Paperback)
Jeanne Heinzer has captured the keys issues facing families relocating their lives internationally. She has related personal experiences to the various stages and challenges faced particularly by the accompanying partner and provides strategies to help with maintaining identity and sense of self amongst the many pressures and needs of other family members.

I would highly recommend this book as a fantastic resource to women and families on the move, it gives you a great sense that you are not the only one who has been through all this and is very supportive in the way it gives practical exercises to coach yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making expatriation a win-win-win situation, September 13, 2009
This review is from: Living Your Best Life Abroad: Resources, tips and tools for women accompanying their partners on an international move (The Reality Guide Series) (Paperback)
After coaching expatriate executives for 20+ years, it is great to see to see such a thoughtful and useful guide for women accompanying their partners on international assignments. This book offers an excellent combination of anecdotes, advice and strategies for its target group. When expatriate partners "thrive" on the international circuit, their executive spouses are happier and more productive on the job which translates into better business results. This book should be a must-read for all expatriate executives with partners and the HR professionals who send them out as well.

As an amazing plus she will open the scene for aspects which are important in everyone's life and a resource no matter living "back home" or abroad.
