More About the Author

Founding President, International Association for the Study of Dreams, Summa Cum laude Princeton University, PhD in Clinical Psychology, Union Graduate School, Co-Director with Loma K. Flowers, MD, Delaney & Flowers Center for the Study of Dreams.

Pioneer in the use of dreams for problem solving and in the interpretation of dreams using "Dream Interview" questions rather than preconceived beliefs, myths, psychological dogma, or the interpreter's projections often called intuitions.
My approach will appeal only to those who do not need a guru, and want to figure out what their own brains are telling them at night in their own private language.

I have presented this non-denominational dream work on hundreds of TV shows including Oprah, NBC Nightly News, Today Show, GMA, Anderson 380 and at many Universities and private and professional societies. My goal is to get the superstition out of dream work, to teach people how to understand the meaning and usefulness of their dreaming minds that are so very adept at helping one to recognize, assess, and resolve daily problems and opportunities.

If you remember that even your nightmares are there to help you, you can save yourself years of confusion, conflict, and in come cases, bad marriages and unwise decisions. Your dreams don't do the work for you, they do not decide things for you, they give you the fuller picture of the situation so you can make better choices.

My books focus on practical applications of my Dream Interview method which I began to formulate one day in 1971 in a class on dreaming at Princeton when I was a senior. I tell the story in Living Your Dreams.

My favorite book? Ah! For teaching the "Dream Interview" method, Breakthrough Dreaming: How to Use the Power of Your 24-Hour Mind. For sheer fun: Sensual Dreaming. For the beginner, In Your Dreams. For problem solving in Dreams: Living Your Dreams. For an overview of my work and the field, All About Dreams. All are described on my site: www.gdelaney.com. There you will also find a couple of videos from my Today Show talks on dreams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still my favorite, January 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Living Your Dreams: The Classic Bestseller on Becoming Your Own Dream Expert (Paperback)
Definitely a classic! It should be noted, however, that this is essentially the 3rd edition of LIVING YOUR DREAMS. The first, which is the one I read, was published in the late 1970's. The third edition is more refined and, I thought, a bit more conservative. Very well presented, and easily accessible. I was "incubating" dreams the very first night I read the directions. I would definitely recommend this book, especially to people who rarely remember their dreams, and want to see what all the fuss is about!

4.0 out of 5 stars The way in to dream interpretation, April 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Living Your Dreams: The Classic Bestseller on Becoming Your Own Dream Expert (Paperback)
Living your dreams is all you could ask for as an introduction to personal dream interpretation. As a practical guide to recording and getting the most out of your dreams, it is unsurpassed. It also offers an introduction to the various schools of thought and a good reading list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most useful book I've read in 20 years, March 21, 2010

This review is from: Living Your Dreams: The Classic Bestseller on Becoming Your Own Dream Expert (Paperback)
I've worked with my dreams for over 20 years. Skipped over Freud and started with Jung and his school, aboriginal and Native American, and "new age." I just read this book after dismissing it for years... just because it was a best seller, self-helpish type thing.

Just so you know, I am Greek and thus was raised on Greek mythology. I also am highly educated, teach at a University, and have an excellent vocabulary. I *still* found that much of the literature was a bit too cerebral to be useful. Also, I had questions such as, "If a white person dreams of a black person and this is supposed to be their shadow, what does the shadow of a black person look like?" Another question: "Why is Jungian therapy so darn expensive? Is it only for the wealthy who have lots of time on their hands? And wouldn't that skew the research such that the sample of those who can afford Jungian therapy does not represent the population of typical Americans or Europeans?"

I have made more progress in working with my dreams using the methodology in this book over the past few months, then in years previous! Straight-up effective... with very little overly intellectualized theory and no bossy "this is what a car means" type of advice. Over and over, I've had that "click" where I understand the dream's meaning. This didn't happen much before. I am excited by the potential for my transformation!
