Stechert, 1941. This is probably the most complete study of a nation's illustrations during the incunabula and post-incunabula period. The first three volumes contain extensive bibliographical information for each book. Sander records author, title, description of illustrations and references these to actual reproductions contained in volumes five and six. Volume four includes a preface and a list of imprints organized by place of publication. Volumes five and six reproduce 868 actual illustrations from the books described.
