Book Description

January 27, 1995 0521422388 978-0521422383
Book VI of Livy's history of Rome covers the period from 390 to 367 BC, a period during which the city, while recovering from being sacked by the Gauls, faced serious civil disturbance, the resolution of which fundamentally changed the structure of Roman society. This edition considers the historical text from a literary and historiographical perspective. The Commentary contains a detailed analysis of Livy's narrative style and structure, while the Introduction situates his work in the ancient historiographical tradition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Aimed at University Scholars!!, January 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Livy: Ab urbe condita Book VI (Cambridge Greek and Latin Classics) (Paperback)
Ab Urbe Condita is a continuation of Kraus's doctoral dissertation. This fact means that her analysis is full of literary jargon aimed maily at University students. If this is the prurpose of the book then it fulfils its aim perfectly. However as an A-level student, most of it is unnecessary and probably more confusing, which means that much must be ignored.
