Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The 'tweens have spoken and Lizzie McGuire is their choice--or at least she's among the choices for a school-age, almost-everyday-girl heroine. This 12-song soundtrack is rife with artists those same 'tween listeners have found most compelling. Smash Mouth lead the charge after Hilary Duff's paean to nearly adolescent emotion, "I Can’t Wait," with their poppy, horn-laden charge through "Why Can't We Be Friends." This effervescent morsel stands with the Wiseguys' "Start the Commotion" as the most mature stuff Lizzie ponies up. The beats are big and the refrains impossible to resist. Then there's the more patently kid-leaning material: Play and their charming love ditty "Us Against the World," Mandy Moore's "Walk Me Home," and Jessica Simpson's faux street-smart "Irresistible." If these pop tunes turn you away, consider the timeless "ABC" from Jackson 5, with its snappy soul and young Michael Jackson's irrepressible bravado marking it as a true classic. --Andrew Bartlett

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD rocks, just like the televison series!, March 28, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Lizzie Mcguire (Audio CD)
1. Hilary Duff's I Can't Wait- Hilary has a very soulful voice. This song is a bit young for me, but I love it anyway. Hilary struggles a bit in some places, but overall, a good song! 4/5
2. Smash Mouth's Why Can't We Be Friends- I don't really like this. It's very repetitive and not sung very well. Kinda poprock, if you know what I mean. I always skip through this track. 1/5 (based on the rest of the soundtrack)
3. Jump 5's All I Can Do- I love this new track. As I am British, I have only just discovered this band. I suppose this pop/r'n'b track could be said to be talking about God (as they are a Christian band) or a crush. Very cool. (Jump5 are five Nashville teenagers). 4.5/5
4. Play's Us Against The World- It doesn't matter how many times you play this song, it never gets annoying! Play are four early-teenage Swedish girls who have AMAZING voccals. This is a brilliant song about friendship. But I bet you've heard it. Who hasn't? People over 14 and some boys may not like this though. 5/5
5. Jessica Simpson- This is a great track, I like this more than her usual 'gospel'. 4/5
6. Jackson 5- This song is a bit old, if you know what I mean. When was this released? It still is good pop, even though you can only distinctively (spelling?) hear two of the voices, a low and a high one. Warning! Play this more than twice in a week and you will begin to hate it! 3/5
7. S Club 7- I love this band, being British and all. I think they're fairly big in America, aren't they? Well they certainly are here. This was on their first album. Very pop. This is an S Club classic from back in the old days (1999). Even if you don't usually like S Club, you will probably like this song. 4/5: check out their latest albums for better tracks.
8. Wiseguys- Don't really like this. A must for dance fans. 2/5
9. Mandy Moore- I like this slow ballad. Mandy Moore at one of her best. 4/5
10. Fan_3- This song is little boys trying to be cool. with not a very good result. Avoid this. 0.5/5
11. Dana Dawson- Have not heard of her but I love this song. 3.5/5
12. Theme song- Who hates this song? Nobody! It sounds live on here, better on the television. All together now: "If you believe!..."

I got this as an import.
It is not really a soundtrack to the series, as some of the tracks do not actually appear on it. More like a teenybopper's paradise soundtrack. Everyone from fans of the TV series, to Play fans (or both!) will love this. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hilary-Actress and Singer, August 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Lizzie Mcguire (Audio CD)
This CD is one to bop your head to, bringing an array of music together from Smashmouth to Hilary Duff, Lizzie McGuire herself. Hilary proves herself to have many talents, being a great actress as we already know, and showing that she has a beautiful voice as well. The theme songs gets everyone humming as you think of the beginning of each episode and then Mandy Moore slows it down with Walk Me Home from when Lizzie was dating Ronny. S Club 7 is a great group lending their song Everybody Wants Ya, from when Lizzie took up modeling. This CD is great to play at parties or when you're chilling with your friends. Jump5 puts in All I Can Do, from their second album and to say the least, it's just as toe-tapping as the others. A nice gift for any of your friends, the Lizzie McGuire soundtrack is a jumping cd.

3.0 out of 5 stars More Ear Candy for Teenybopper Pop Lovers, August 19, 2002
By
This review is from: Lizzie Mcguire (Audio CD)
Writer's note: Anyone who does not LOVE sugary pop music sung by equally sugary, cutesy prepubescent talents need not even read this review. This CD will only please those few souls like me who are brave enough to admit to enjoying "teenybop" pop and owning a CD like this one. That being said, here's a brief rundown of each track and my rating on them:

1) "I Can't Wait" by Hilary Duff -- 3.5/5; Hilary's voice is strong enough to fill out this catchy pop tune but could use some fine-tuning that should come with experience.

2) "Why Can't We Be Friends" by Smashmouth -- 3/5; Smashmouth rocks on this cover of a classic, but the lyrics do get a bit repetitive.

3) "All I Can Do" by Jump 5 -- 2.5/5; This is just another so-so pop tune with a catchy beat and average vocals.

4) "Us Against the World" by Play -- 4/5; This is one of my favorite tunes on the album 'cause these girls are so darn perky and have great voices for their young ages.

5) "Irresistible" by Jessica Simpson -- 5/5; Simpson can sing. Period.

6) "ABC" by Jackson 5 -- 4/5; This is an oldy but goody that brings some personality to the CD.

7) "Everybody Wants Ya" by S Club 7 -- 3.5/5; This is a pretty good touchy-feely, feel-good-about-yourself pop tune.

8) "Start the Commotion" by The Wise Guys -- 5/5; There is no other song on this album as rockin' as this one!

9) "Walk Me Home" by Mandy Moore -- 3.5/5; I'm a big Mandy Moore fan, so naturally I'd like this song even if it is a bit too sweet for my taste.

10) "What They Gonna Think" by Fan_3 -- 1/5; This is my absolute least-favorite song on the album. Just why was it included, I wonder?

11) "Have a Nice Life" by Dana Dawson -- 3.5/5; This is another feel-good song, this time about kissing off a bad relationship.

12) Theme Song to "Lizzie McGuire" -- 2/5; I can't hate any theme song from one of my favorite television shows, but I'm not crazy about the vocals on this one.
