Editorial Reviews

Review

My husband and I are new and very green llama owners; however after reading your book we are convinced that TTEAM and your methods are both the most practical and humane for our llama friends. Your book is definately superior. -- (From a Pleased Reader)

About the Author

Marty McGee (Bennett) isn't that old - barely the other side of 40 - but she has been a fixture in the llama business almost since there was a llama business. Marty started out in the llama biz as a professional fiber artist-one of the first to work with llama wool. Those were the days when llama wool was often pulled off of various grooming tools in little lumps or swept up off the barn floor . In the beginning it was a bit like spinning gold out of straw. Marty once received a fleece with dead snake in it! Both she and the llama business have come a long way. After meeting up with Linda Tellington-Jones in 1987 Marty dedicated herself to bringing Linda's work, known as TTEAM, to the llama community. The loom and spinning wheel are now on loan. Marty spends her time traveling around the globe teaching her special brand of animal understanding to people who wish to move beyond the limits of traditional training. Marty has changed the lives for the better for countless llamas alpacas and their people; teaching owners to understand and relate positively to their charges as well as get the management job done in a kind and reasonable way. Return engagements to Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland as well as clinics in the US and Canada make her the most sought after and respected trainer in the alpaca and llama business today. With two books and six video tapes to her credit she is always innovating and updating the "Cutting Edge." When she is not on the road teaching Marty McGee (Bennett) lives in Santa Fe New Mexico with her husband Brad Bennett and their dog Rocky Raccoon.

More About the Author

Marty McGee Bennett's first llama jumped off the back of a pickup truck and into her heart in 1981. Since then Marty has devoted her professional life to the well being of llamas and alpacas and the education of camelid enthusiasts. Marty brings a variety of experience and qualifications to her work with camelids, including a B.S. degree in Animal Behavior. Marty's combination of TTEAM (the work developed by Linda Tellington-Jones), with the principals of balance and leverage and a second sense with both camelids and people make "Camelidynamics" the world's most popular, and enduring training/handling system for camelids.
Her clinics, books and videos have helped thousands of llama and alpaca owners more fully understand, appreciate and enjoy this magical animal. Marty's most book "The Camelid Companion" published in 2001 has received rave reviews in publications worldwide. Conducting hundreds of clinics in North America and around the world have kept Marty on the road for much of the past 25 years. Marty's work with camelids is popular with owners and veterinarians alike. She has taught the principles of animal handling to veterinarians and at veterinary schools around the county.

Most recently using the principles that work with llamas, alpacas, dogs and horses...all animals-- Marty is now helping people with their own personal animal... their bodies. With animals as inspiration Marty's newest book on weight maintenance and balance "The Problem with Weight is NOT Losing it! is helping readers understand the dynamics of maintaining a healthy weight in a way that is both simple and easy!

Marty her husband Brad and their family of four-leggeds have a farm in Bend, Oregon that is the home of the Camelidynamics Training Center and the base of operations for the Camelidynamics Guild. 4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for anyone handling livestock., April 29, 1998
This review is from: Llama Handling and Training: The Team Approach (Paperback)
This book is full of applied techniques from Linda Tellington Jones, an expert animal trainer. Marty has taken Linda's methods and applied them to llamas. It is a kind and gentle method of training. Marty knows of what she speaks, she has been traveling the world working with llamas. An important book to have if you own animals. The techniques can be applied to any species.

5.0 out of 5 stars Communications made better!, October 5, 2000
This review is from: Llama Handling and Training: The Team Approach (Paperback)
Faced with the wonderful intelligence and near-human reasoning of llamas, a new, or even experienced owner can become quickly overwhelmed, anxious, or indecisive. As with other creatures who share our world, llamas can sense the indecision, and will rapidly take full advantage! In this wonderful, down to earth book, techniques are taught to better understand the llama's viewpoint on basic things such as toenail trimming, shots, haltering, shearing, as well as the steps in broadening your experiences with the llama by taking them places, and doing things that might otherwise not be in your realm, and then having FUN doing them!! I've used the techniques outlined here for several years, and can truthfully say they work, with the added benefit of a much easier working relationship with all animals I encounter. A gem to add to your library!
