More About the Author

Anna Dewdney lives in a very old house in Vermont. She has two teenage daughters and two very muddy dogs. Anna has wanted to write and illustrate children's books from the time she was a little girl, and she likes nothing better than to sit in her studio and make funny faces as she sketches her characters and writes her stories. YES, I found rhyme, it takes 4 pages, each with typical short board book text, to reach the rhyme, then begins a new rhyme. Same fine Anna Dewdney rhyme that has caught the hearts of children for years. Same great painted pages, bright colors, fun llamas to attract children under the age of 3. Sturdy construction so the toddler can hold, touch, OWN this book. What a marvelous way to enrich a crawler-to-toddler and start them on book interest. I've always loved Dewdney's Llama Llama books, since using them in elementary teaching. Now as a retired grandparent, it's fun having the new Llama Llama board book series to share, and give, to my youngest grandson.

He loves the rhyme in Llama Llama zippity-zoom. When I exaggerate the rhyming words, he tries to repeat at least the sound (just learning to talk.) We do the motions together, pretending to zip-zoom-uroom on a scooter; or mime a slide swoosh to the swing whoosh. In a couple of years I'll begin reading him the original Llama Llama books, but for now, he loves Llama Llama on the hard (board book) pages.

Original Llama Llama books were written for age 3 and up. They became a modern classic. Now a total of 4 Llama Llama board books designed for the younger tikes, will get the children interesting in reading even faster. You can't start reading to them too early. From an educational standpoint, I believe these 4 are board book perfect. And not just because I'm a longtime fan of Dewdney's Llama Llama.

I recommend all 4 board books as well as any Llama Llama older child book.
Board book titles are llama llama nighty-night; llama llama wakey-wake; llama llama hoppity-hop; and this book llama llama zippity-zoom.

Our toddler would give this 5 stars. Picked it up at the library and it was his first choice throughout the 15th-16th month. I have not renewed it for the moment so the adults could have a break. However, I can recite the entire text:

Llama llama zip, Llama llama zoom
Llama llama red pajama, vroom vroom vroom!
Llama llama swish, Llama llama swoosh
Llama llama red pajama, woosh woosh woosh!
Llama llama beep, Llama llama bop
Llama llama red pajama, screech, clunk, stop!

I think this kind of play with sounds is great for him right now, but, uh, there's not much to pull in the adults in our household.

There's also a slight problem in that the way we pronounce pajama around here doesn't rhyme with llama, but that doesn't seem to bother the tot.

My 17 month old son has always loved Llama Llama Nighty Night and Llama Llama Wakey Wake, so I thought these would be similar. However they are not nearly as creative. They're very repetitive which is just plain boring for myself and for my son. Llama Llama Hoppity Hop is the same, repetitive and didn't really tell a story. Yes they rhyme but anyone can do that!

We absolutely love Llama Llama Nighty-night and Wakey-wake so when I saw this one I instantly pre-ordered it. I have to admit it was a bit of a disappointment. The other 2 board books rhyme which make it fun to read. This one's more Llama llama zips, Llama llama zooms, and then it ends. Not much of a story so not as entertaining as the other ones. Still has a cute ending but not enough to save the book.

I love llama lamma. These are bboard books that are fun to read with SMALL babies. Great sounds and simple pictures for the littles of LO's. Don't buy if you want something with a plot. Do buy if you like to read new sounds or show your baby actions as you're reading. In this particular one, I think the ending is a little dumb and doesn't have the musical quality the rest of the pages have. I'd still totally buy it again because it's exactly what I wanted.

I am with other reviewers on this one. The title leads you to believe it will be a fun book of words, but in fact we have found it to be boring (20 month boy/girl twins). Would only recommend for a toy box book for kids to look at on their own.
We love Llama Llama Red Pajama
**Update this was a book that would just lay around but I noticed my almost 2 year old twins picking it up and looking at it. There is something about it that they like. Now it is a quick read that we add to another book. Even though there are only a few words in the book it is fun to practice the sound words. My kids laugh everytime.
