5.0 out of 5 stars A picture paints a thousand words
Why waste words when pictures say so many. Just turning the pages of this book gives you a warm and wonderful feeling about alpacas and llamas. A desire to touch one because they look so adorable.

I have three holiday cottages and in each I have a copy of this book on the coffee tables. Every week my guests tell me what a lovely book it is and how their children...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice book, but a little expensive
The pictures in this book are absolutely adorable, but other reviews that sort of imply that it's a coffee table book make it seem that it's more substantial than it actually is. It's paperback and relatively small. Cute and funny (and a tad corny), but at the current price, a little expensive for what you get.

Why waste words when pictures say so many. Just turning the pages of this book gives you a warm and wonderful feeling about alpacas and llamas. A desire to touch one because they look so adorable.

I have three holiday cottages and in each I have a copy of this book on the coffee tables. Every week my guests tell me what a lovely book it is and how their children love to look at the photos. They then ask me if I will show them my own alpacas and llamas for real. As we walk around the fields they ask informed questions which they formulated from reading the copy of 'Llamas and Alpacas as a Metaphor for Life'. The feel of them then becomes a reality.

I think it is a lovely book and just the right size for anyones' home. I also think that it is good value, especially with its fascination and appeal for the animals and the excellent photography which must cost a bomb. Well done Marty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Treat Yourself to Beautiful and Timely Gem of a Book!!, April 30, 2003

Whether you are fortunate enough to own alpacas and/or llamas, are a "camelid-owner wantabe" or you just love animals and/or life, you will truly enjoy this book! In addition to the stunning Sandy Flanagan photographs, Marty McGee's words give pause for reflection on some very important life lessons, like "Treasure your Friends." In today's troubled world this is an absolutely delightful time out! If you are looking for a book on boring facts and figures about llamas and alpacas, this is the wrong book to buy. But if you enjoy feasting your eyes while laughing (who doesn't need a laugh?!) and maybe shedding a tear - grab this one, a cup of tea or a glass of wine and ENJOY!!! I did and will again and again and again...

Marty McGee has somehow crossed over into the land of lamas. Her pictures accompanied by the heartwarming stories really touched my heart! When someone asks you why you raise alpacas or llamas, give them this book. It gives the reader so many reasons they may find themselves wondering just why don't they? If you love lamas or any animals you won't be disappointed with Marty's Llamas and Alpacas as a Metaphor for Life

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, April 29, 2003

The photos in the book are beautiful and enhance the humor throughout. The number of people who have picked this book off my coffee table and simply haven't been able to put it down until they have been cover to cover and then gone back to choose their favorite photos/captions. It oozes with fun, warmth and captures some of the magic of these wondrous critters. There are a number of books available on the care & maintenance of llamas but this book shows an insight of the joy of owning llamas. If you want to get people hooked on lamas give them a copy of this book.
