5.0 out of 5 stars Llewellyn's Beautiful Wiccan Calendar for 2006, September 24, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Llewellyn's 2006 Witches' Calendar (Annuals - Witches' Calendar) (Calendar)
With each new year, I always enjoy getting a copy of the latest Witches' Calendar from Llewellyn Publications. And, as usual, the 2006 calendar contains a vast amount of useful information. Like its predecessors, the 2006 calendar lists all eight of the Wiccan/Pagan holidays (Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lammas, Mabon, Samhain and Yule) as well as the significant Christian holidays (including observed Orthodox holidays), Jewish holidays and Muslim holidays. In addition to the religious holidays, the calendar also lists the major civil holidays for the United States, Canada and Mexico. Other listed holidays include Earth Day, International Astrology Day, Chinese New Year and the beginning & ending of Daylight Savings Time. It also lists all significant moon phases (new, waxing quarter, full and waning quarter), significant planetary movements between the twelve constellations of the zodiac (including whether the movement is retrograde) and the color of the day. Birthdays and decease dates for significant people in Pagan history are also listed, as well as other significant Pagan dates. As was introduced in the 2005 calendar, a table is provided in the back of the 2006 calendar that lists when it is possible to view five of the planets in our Solar System with the naked eye (without the aid for a telescope): Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. (Neptune and Pluto are too distant to be seen without the use of a telescope and only a very small number of people have been able to see Uranus with a naked eye, but since it is extremely faint, most people cannot see it without the aid of a telescope.)

People who regularly purchase an annual "Llewellyn Witches' Calendar" will probably notice several significant differences with calendars from previous years:
1. The monthly articles do not have separate titles.
2. The calendar is somewhat larger. (Calendars in previous years were typically 13 inches wide and 19 inches long when hung, but the 2006 calendar is 12 inches wide and 24 inches long when hung. So, you might have to adjust placement of this calendar on your wall if you like to hang it in the same place each year.)
3. Finally, the paper used in the 2006 calendar is thinner than previous years, but appears to be of a higher quality.

As with calendars in previous years, each month was beautifully decorated by the artist Jennifer Hewitson and is accompanied by an interesting article written by a Wiccan or Pagan author as listed below:
Jan.: Yasmine Galenorn
Feb.: Danny Pharr
Mar.: Emely Flak
Apr.: Barbara Ardinger
May.: James Kambos
Jun.: Gerina Dunwich
Jul.: Gail Wood
Aug.: Jennifer McDevitt
Sep.: Ellen Dugan
Oct.: Dianne Sylvan
Nov.: Cerridwen Isis Shea
Dec.: Abby Willowroot

Other insightful articles contained at the back of the calendar include:
* "Protecting Hearth & Home" by Raven Grimassi
* "Patron Deities of Egypt" by Denise Dumars.
* "Brightware: Magical Jewelry" by Elizabeth Barrette.
* "The Evil Eye" by Janina Renée.
* "Fabulous Feasts" by Magenta Griffith.
* "The Magic Box" by Deborah Lipp.
* "New Year's Magic" by Lynne Sturtevant.
* "The Witch Cleans House" by K.D. Spitzer.

Overall, I rate "Llewellyn's Witches' Calendar 2006" with 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely on the Wall, December 17, 2005

This calendar is so full of information. I felt like I just got an issue to a great Witch magazine in the mail! The articles are wonderful, with suggestions, recipes, rituals, and more. The full color pictures are beautiful to look at, and I find they are spiritually stimulating. The Calendar itself is in-line with the 2006 Witch's Date Book, so I don't have to learn different symbols for both. This wall calendar also includes the little facts from history on various days, which I find very interesting. These calendars are definitely helping me along my new path as a Wiccan. I hope they are considering/working on a page-a-day calendar as well.

I've gotten this calendar for the last several years, and look forward to getting it each December. It is clear, easy to read, and each month has an interesting article about that month -- its festivals, holy days, or just thoughts on the season. I use it regularly, and recommend it to any Pagans out there who need an attractive wall calendar. Although it's called the Witches' Calendar, that's really a misnomer to me -- it is for more than just the Wiccans among us!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it in everyway, visually and informationally !, January 17, 2006

I am in Australia so the festivals are all turned on their head, but this is not a complaint. I love writing in my southern hemispherical equivalents and I often celebrate both festivals in different ways for both hemispheres.

I love the pictures, ( yep they'll go into frames at the end of the year ) and the information on the pages at the back of each month. I love knowing what the moon is up to without having to work it out, it's just a visual and informational feast. I will definitely get one every year from now on.

Goddess I love being Wiccan !!

I keep my calendar on my bathroom mirror and check it each morning. There's obviously not enough space to put down a whole day, but you can jot a quick note to remind yourself to check your Witches' Datebook for all the details! I used to be the most disorganized person you can imagine - my mother says I couldn't organize a dogfight - and this calendar, together with the Datebook, have shown me the way to serenity!

The artwork is inspiring and energizing, the information is useful and easy to interpret, and when the year is over you can turn the calendar into a book that provides a quick reference for magic and your past doings.

Perfect monthly calendar with all the info you might expect. Works better for me than the datebook since I use a PDA. Has the same info as the datebook plus some nice things in the back to read about like protecting your hearth.

(My only suggestion is to do a little more color coding. It would be nice to have Pagan holidays in one color and other religious or US holidays in another. Pagan facts in one color vs. other facts, etc.)

I'm very pleased!

5.0 out of 5 stars Will buy next years (2007)!, March 3, 2006

This review is from: Llewellyn's 2006 Witches' Calendar (Annuals - Witches' Calendar) (Calendar)
Very pleasing to the eye, handy daily notes such as which sign the moon is in, color of the day, moon void of course, holidays (pagan and otherwise), of course, historical tidbits (famous pagan birthdays, etc) and others.

I was pleased and surprised that the last several pages of the calendar are dedicated to various "articles" such as herbs, cleansing your home, a table defining the planetary and astrological symbols, and more.

Each month not only has a stunning picture at the top, but to the right side, a column with great info for that month/season, or just tips and reminders of magic to be created!

I adore this calendar, and will be getting another one for 2007!

As mine was given to me as a gift, I would HIGHLY reccommend this as a gift idea for any Pagan you know!

4.0 out of 5 stars good but should have been double-checked...., January 8, 2006
This review is from: Llewellyn's 2006 Witches' Calendar (Annuals - Witches' Calendar) (Calendar)
I got the calander the other day and the yearly calanders are always nice, but someone should have done a double check on what was printed. In my calander there is the typical face with the days of the week and the moon phase, etc and next to each of the days of the week is the symbol of the planet that rules over the day. well, all is fine but there is the symbol for saturn next to monday AND saturday when then symbol for the moon should be next to monday. i`m not sure if this is in all the calanders printed or what but its a mistake in atleast some of the calanders.
