5.0 out of 5 stars My all time favorite CD!
This is the best CD I have ever purchased. Lloyd Cole is like a Scottish (but born in England, but raised and lives in Scotland) Lou Reed. Incredibly dark. This is Lloyd Cole's first solo work after leaving The Commotions. The biggest single on this CD was Downtown which was also on the Bad Influence soundtrack. If you have heard that song and liked it, you will love...

Lloyd Cole has a new band now, The Negatives! If you you're a fan check it out. Imposible Girl is a very typical Lloyd Cole song. And if you are looking for even more Lloyd Cole, check out the CD I'm You're Fan. It's a tribute to Leonard Cohen with Lloyd Cole performing Chelsea Hotel. It's an incredible cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get It While You Can, August 31, 2000
This review is from: Lloyd Cole (Audio CD)
This is Lloyd Cole's best album. It's one of the best albums by anyone. Lord knows it's better than at least 99% of the crap you probobly already own. If you don't like it, I'll buy it from you.

This purchase is a no-brainer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Haunting and moody, July 5, 2002
This review is from: Lloyd Cole (Audio CD)
My brother Andrew, who played the song "Long Way Down" for me, turned me on to this CD back in the early 1990's. I was hooked.

This is simply a great CD, from the opening track through the end; the songs are hauntingly moody and smooth. This is one of those rare CD's that takes me back immediately to the place and time when I first heard the songs. Rainy Seattle fall days and nights, with my then girlfriend Michelle. In fact, so strong is the mood here that when we broke up, I couldn't listen to the music anymore. After marrying her 10 years later, I bought the CD again and still love it, and it still takes me back just as strongly.

Start some memories of your own, and enjoy this wonderful musical trip. Highly recommended!

I hadn't listened to this CD for years. Put it in the player today and I was reminded how good it is. It was my favorite album of 1990 and it sounds great in 2005 [almost 2006].

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Needs to Be Re-issued, May 23, 2005

Be thankful Amazon has a cd used service so you can buy this out-of-print gem, which I believe with Don't Get Weird On Me, Babe, is tied for the greatest Lloyd Cole album ever. Both albums are seamless masterpieces maintaining moods of crooning melancholy. Sadly, recent Lloyd Cole albums have all sounded alike but this Lloyd Cole album, titled after his name, and Don't Get Weird On Me are his vintage works, foreshadowing the greatness of My Morning Jacket, who are now carrying Lloyd Cole's legacy of beautiful sounding crooners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning NYC Debut, June 26, 2004
This review is from: Lloyd Cole (Audio CD)
His first solo release is fantastic; great to listen to when you are away on a long weekend or cannot get out of bed on a Saturday; just hit the repeat button. Great guitar work from master Robert Quine and LLoyd. Nothing But Blue skies is my favorite song - and very different from the others, but all rate 9 or 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Part of Anyone's Basic Audio Library, June 23, 1998

Back when the Holy Musical Trinity in Britain consisted of EMF, Jesus Jones, and the Stone Roses, Lloyd Cole came to America, leaving behind a catalogue of intelligent, touching, and surprisingly musical work with his band the Commotions. One his first solo album, though, he stretches out. Making no secret of his Marc Bolan fixation on rockers like "Sweetheart" and telling his lover to "find your body someone else/ and tear the stars out of the sky" on "No Blue Skies", Cole shows a range that he had only hinted at in his earlier work. This is a fine, beautiful, album, sometimes touching and sometimes almost viscious, but always classy.

This is my favourite solo album from Lloyd Cole. But he has made more good albums, please check his catoloque. There are no real bad albums in it.

4.0 out of 5 stars not bad for a solo start, May 11, 2005

Considering how good Lloyd was with the Commotions, his first solo effort was always going to fall short. But don't compare this too much to that band's releases. On its own the first three tracks ("Don't Look Back," "waht Do You KNow About Love?" and "No Blue Skies" are all as superb as anything he did with the Commotions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome, Lloyd Cole!, January 27, 2000

This CD stayed in my player for all of 1990 into 1991 and still gets listened to about once a month now! I thought I would wear it out! It hit me from the very first time I listened to it. The more I heard it, the deeper it got. Cole's 1st solo album had me thinking about music and life more than anytime else. His well versed and clever lyrics along with his vocals come together on this CD as a whole. The music compliments the words without taking over. A perfect balance. The CD flows easily from one song to another in a way that is masterfull. Not a 'dud' on the whole CD...a *very* rare thing!

I cannot recommend this CD more. I have given it as a gift to many people...I haven't had a complaint yet!
