Yes, it's a little pricey, but if you are looking for a single-disc collection of Lloyd Price, this is absolutely the one to get. The sound is great, it has the most comprehensive selection of his rocking tracks (except for Mailman Blues, curiously enough), the booklet is gorgeous, and the music -- it is so infectiously buoyant that it is a perfect antidote to the blues. Really. Some people may find the occasionally cheesy backing vocals on some tracks a little hard to take, but there aren't that many, and if you can get used to them the music is right in the pocket. Lloyd Price lifts the room when he sings. This is an almost perfect reissue. Amazon customers familiar with Bear Family's meticulous, high-quality reissues will know just what I mean.

Malt shop memories par excellence., October 26, 2009
This review is from: Lloyd Rocks (Audio CD)
I picked up this CD a few days ago and finally reviewed it.
He's mostly remembered for these hits:
Stagger Lee - Lloyd Price - No.01 for 4 weeks on 1/5/1959. 15 weeks Top 40 - "Gold hit. AMG Pick. #1 R&B hit (4 weeks). Adapted from the traditional folk song 'Stack-O-Lee.' Don Costa Orchestra."
Personality - Lloyd Price - No.02 for 3 weeks on 5/11/1959. 14 weeks Top 40 - "Gold hit. AMG Pick. #1 R&B hit (4 weeks). Don Costa Orchestra."
But there are so many songs by him that stand out.
His early stuff before he became famous has that raw R&B energy that will make you come back for more.
What you get is 34 songs, 1.3 hours of prime 1950s music from 1952-1961.
What I got was 30 songs, 1.1 hours of music that would make a fine compilation, with 12 songs, 28.2 minutes (1952-1959) that are 5 star rated by me!
BEAR FAMILY LABEL: This German label can be quite expensive, but you will be guaranteed great sounding CDs and very informative booklets.
I never had a complaint with them.
BOTTOM LINE: Would I recommend buying it. If you are building up your collection of the 1950s you can't go wrong getting it!
