4.0 out of 5 stars Lloyd
I've never written a review before, but after reading the Editor's comments, I had to reply. I don't know if the reviewer is come kind of extreme, obsessive, political correctness zealot, but my family, which includes 8 and 10 year old girls, really enjoyed this movie. It was funny, and in many ways true to life. True, a couple of the sceens with the bully showed him...

3.0 out of 5 stars ABOVE AVERAGE COMING OF AGE FILM! 3 1/2 STARS!
I never heard of this film before I watched this film and it was better than I expected it to be. 'Lloyd' is a geeky kid who is not popular at school. This family friendly coming of age film has a few surprises, but it's not a as deep as I would have liked. It is however a decent movie with it's share of good laughs! The cast give it their all in this cute little film...

It was funny, and in many ways true to life. True, a couple of the sceens with the bully showed him as mean spirited, but that's life. This actually gave me a great opportunity to discuss this type of behavior with my children and discuss how to best avoid and/or deal with it. Unfortunately, in the real world, things like this actually happen. Very enjoyable movie, definitely recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lloyd, July 21, 2001

A pastor friend of mine in California recommended that I purchase a copy of Lloyd for my pre-teen grandchildren. I was able to find it on Amazon.com. After reading other reviews on Amazon, I nearly decided not to purchase it.

I reviewed the movie before allowing my grandchildren to see it. The only vulgar language that I heard was the word "fart" that was used twice.

So far, my pre-teen grandchildren have watched Lloyd three times. They love it! This film is very unique in that it addresses all of the issues that pre-teens have. It helps them through these very difficult issues in ways that they can easily identify with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give this film a chance!, December 18, 2001

I have seen this fim several times and was quite shocked by Lynn Gibson's negative review.
The quality of the film speaks for itself. But only if it is seen..... The unanimous approval of the customer reviews attest to this fact. It is most unfortunate that potential buyers are first presented with with the "official" reviewers dismissal of this fine film. How many never bother to follow the links to the other reviews?

In responce to the reviewers comments, I have many things to say.... but I will only quote from the book "Saturday Morning Censors: TV Regulations before the V-Chip" by Heather Hendershot

"Debates around children's entertainment inevitably reveal what adults need or desire for themselves and of children."

With this in mind, I encourage people to re-read the reviewers comments and come to their own conclusions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most unappreciated film ever made!, November 27, 2001

I love this movie. My mom loves this movie. Everyone I know loves this movie. We've watched it repeatedly and never tire of it. It's chock full of everything that a real adolescent experiences on a daily basis. And to top it all off, it's downright hilarious. Todd Bosley is by far one of the brightest young actors I have ever seen, and I hope his career continues to flourish.

5.0 out of 5 stars A universally wonderful film, April 4, 2003

One of the true signs of great storytelling is if you can connect with different people on different levels. This movie does just that. The humor is universal, and there is plenty here for both children and adults. I loved this movie, and actually sent it to a friend of mine as a wedding present. They loved it as well.
Lloyd looks at the life of a upbeat geeky kid and his attempt to win the girl of his dreams, and just try and fit in. I think everybody who has ever been 11, or will ever be 11, can relate to this story. I know it brought back memories of my own childhood and my first crush. It shows kids that there are obstacles that you have to face growing up, and it shows Lloyd facing and overcoming them. It's a good life lesson, and one of the few films that parents can and will want to watch with their children. It doesn't get burdened down with overly complex characters, and that is part of its charm. You never hear kids say that their teacher is "Stern but fair." Nope. They say that the teacher is just mean.
I think one thing that most children's programs miss today is that they don't have to make everything so sterile for the children that parents will hate to watch it. Watch an old Muppets rerun and you'll know what I mean. The Muppets were entertaining to all ages because they were just funny. Like old Warner Brothers cartoons. They were just funny. There wasn't a focus group targeting them specifically for one demographic. They just made them funny, and everybody loved them. Just like Lloyd.
Hands down: It's a great movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best "kid" movie about life ever!, July 23, 2002

I thought this was a great movie. Most of the other movies about kids and school are all really boring. Lloyd is not your average person as he has no friends, is made fun of by his little brother, and is an ugly kid. Yet he manages to find confidence in himself to invite a kid over (Troy played by Brendon Ryan Barrett)and become his friend as well as going after a girl he likes. I thought it was very different than your average 6th grade flick. I love the part when Lloyd starts screaming in the playground after seeing the girl he likes go with someone else. I also think that Brendon Ryan Barrett is the best actor in the movie as he was 14 when he shot this movie and looks really young.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Family Comedy!, September 20, 2001

My family viewed this movie in the theatre as well as on vhs. Our family; five kids & two adults, enjoyed Lloyd very much. It is not often enough that a family can go to the theatre or sit in front of the TV together without the fear of nudity or vulgarity popping up through the screen. It was true, clean fun for my kids, and a few memories of the issues regarding kids in school, since school began, that we all face. The difference here is, the perspective comes from the kids. Also, when viewing these troubles, the kids can see it from the outside, possibly more clearly.
I don't agree with your reviiewer--not one sentence!! And that could take another 1,000 words. But the point is, WE TRULY ENJOYED THE FILM !!

This film is so fun, enjoyable for kids and adults. I don't understand why most people have not heard of this movie, because we love it. We have rented it over and over and will be very happy to finally own it. A great kids movie that also offers lots of laughs for grown-ups too!

What a great movie for the family to watch and discuss afterwards. There are so many points about growing up, what matters in life, friendship, parenting, encouragement and values in this film. Thank you so much for making this movie. We love it.
