5.0 out of 5 stars Raw Talent - A man and his guitar, September 18, 2007
This review is from: Lo-Fidelity (Audio CD)
If you think the soul of someone's music is the soul IN the music then this cd is for you. In the tradition of a raw sound, without all the distractions of production bells and whistles, Ernie connects you with the heart of his music and emotion.

Always one to put a new and exciting low-key spin on classic songs, he covers (Allison, Wade In The Water, John Mayer's Man On The Side, Billie Holiday's God Bless The Child, Otis Redding's Try A Little Tenderness and These Arms Of Mine). He also melts you and makes you smile with sheer giddiness at his original talent.

He's got a wide range of style from blues to some subtle jazz (God Bless The Child, These Arms Of Mine), rock (Love Look At Me Now, One You Need) to folky ballads (Love In LA, Whisper), gospel (Wade In The Water) and even a latin-tinged "Lisa" (loosely based on Beethoven's Fur Elise).

I love the entire album but one of my favorites is "Played". Ernie jokingly described it as a song about dirty love, though it sounds more like blind optimism to me. The man is humorous, gentle and insightful with his music and every lick of it has soul. Forget 5 stars. He deserves 10 Stars.
