But then the trip becomes irresistible--the ocean, the beaches, the rocky coves as much as the lobster rolls, velvety claws, and sumptuous feasts of seafood and sides at the lobster shacks.
The generosity of Urban's writing and the thoroughness of his research grant the reader a breezy expertise in such things as ways lobsters are cooked, how they change from season to season, where they thrive, and how they are caught.
The author's vivid photos of places and people make this not only a detailed guide to where to go and what to eat but also a volume of souvenirs, of where you've been and what you ate and how wonderful it all was. I am grateful to Urban for the reminder to go back to Kennebunkport fot the best (winter) lobster I ever had, to Newport in winter also, to Gloucester and Cape Ann--and then to go farther, as he has in mapping precise directions to timeless pleasures.
