Book Description

3 and up
In this delightfully fishy tale, the famous restaurateur lobster, Monsieur Thermidor, reads his birthday horoscope in Salome Starfish's column. Her murky predictions of mysterious events with a surprise ending make him wonder what lies ahead. While collecting seaweed to make his famous seaweed soup, he careens into a series of troublesome events that test his courage. Keeping a cool head and masterful manner, he escapes from a fisherman's boat, wins the love of a beautiful lady lobster, and fulfills Salome Starfish's prediction! Kids will be fascinated with the colorful play-dough creatures that were sculpted by Lindsey Kidd. Her recipe for play-dough is included.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Sophisticated, fun and different" The Scotsman; "It would be hard to look a plate of whitebait in the face after an encounter with the Kidd's popeyed dough sculptures. The fun factor of turning food into art and the sheer craziness of the setting make it a winner" The Times Educational Supplement --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

About the Author

Richard Kidd studied painting at Newcastle University before taking up a scholarship at the British School at Rome. After several years of teaching at Newcastle University, he went to America in 1980, to spend a year in San Francisco and six years in New York on a Harkness Fellowship. Lindsey Kidd studied fine art and sculpture at Preston Polytechnic and became a mannequin modeller. She has been creating salt-dough models for several years, and it was one of her Christmas lobster decorations which inspired her husband, Richard Kidd, to write Monsieur Thermidor. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
