Product Description

The Loc8tor Plus is the multi award winning device that will help you keep tabs on your children, pets and possessions and is ideal for use at home, out and about or for business. Its two modes Locate and Alert enable you to find any tagged lost item even in the hardest to find places and to be warned if an item, pet or child goes outside of your designated safety zone.

The Loc8tor Plus is exceptional at finding and can monitor up to 24 lost items. Directional audio and visual cues from the handheld will guide you to the exact location of the missing tag. It will literally take you minutes (even seconds) to find things that would normally have you hunting around for hours and maybe never found at all. With amazing accuracy you will be guided to within an inch / 2.5cm whether indoors or out, in complete darkness or in a noisy room

Alert Mode
Helps stop things getting lost. It warns you if your valuables, pet or child move outside of your user-set boundary with a vibration alert, audio alarm and handheld displaying which item/s wandered off or has been stolen. Select from 3 preset safety zones - near, medium or far each of which can be further fine tuned to help define the distance required.

Panic Alarm
The Panic Tags (when used in Alert mode) contain a Panic button enabling a child or dependant to call for help. When pressed it activates an Alert Alarm on the handheld advising which child activated the Alarm. This is ideal as a personal alarm for a child or dependent and can be used on a beach, in a park or shopping centre to name but a few.

The Range
183 metre / 600 feet range is based on clear line of sight. Actual range will vary depending on use, environment and location.Loc8tor Plus Pack contents include

1 x Loc8tor Plus handheld 2 x Mini Homing Tags 2 x Panic Homing Tags Key ring loop and adhesive strips Multi language user guide All batteries included

When pairing the old tags didn't work, I called to see what the problem was.

I use 2 of the 4 tags permanently on my "Boys" (cats). Very useful when I'm not certain if they are in the house or not. When they are asleep and not responding to my calling, it has saved me alot of time and worry. When they are outside, I can tell when they are coming back after I call them by listening to the signal strenth beep.

More importantly, the other 2 I use for my granddaughters when they visit me, or I them.

The major problem I see is that, once a tag is paired with a locator unit, it cannot be re-paired with another unit. I found this out after my first Locator broke. Left it on the kitchen counter and my cat swatted it off the counter and onto the floor like a hockey puck!

When I ordered a new set, I thought I'd end up with 8 tags, the new 4 and my old 4. I had big plans to tag all my remotes, and other often mislaid items. When pairing the old tags didn't work, I called to see what the problem was. I found out the tags are completely monogamous. Once paired with a unit they can't be re-paired.

I bought this tracker to find my cat on my 6 acres. He goes out and of course doesn't come when caller so I needed a tracker to find him to bring him in at night so the coyotes don't make a meal of him. It works great, when he hears the beeping he comes out of his hiding spot to see what is going on. I bought a harness to put the tracker on and purchased the little rubber container to help hold the tracker on the harness and that cheap rubber holder is a piece of crap sorry to say. They come with 2, so the 1st one ripped off of the collar on one end the 1st day. Thin soft rubber on the back doesn't hold together well at all so I put the spare on and it ripped off on the same end where the cat is going through bushes or what not and gets caught up and rips off. I positioned it so that it is on his side instead of behind his head and still rips off so I have had to duct tape it on with the rubber which seem to be working. You need some kind of something to hold the tracker on. They need to make the rubber holder tougher to be worth the cost of it.

I really needed something to track my cats when I moved recently, and the reviews suggested this would do the trick. The trackers are small enough for a cat, but that is where the positives end for me.

The range of this device is laughable. Most of the time, the indicators only work when I can actually see my cat!
Granted, you do need to install fresh batteries from time to time - but even on a full charge, I estimate the range to be about 150-200 feet in a normal neighborhood environment.
Sadly, this is easily within the range I can yell 'Here KITTY KITTY!" with just about the same effectiveness.

EDIT: After returning this product, I did some research and found a true radio-based tracking collar that works amazingly. It's called the "LoCATor". The tracking collar is small with an integrated antenna. The hand-held device looks like a professional grade animal tracker with a RF receiver mounted onto a pistol grip. It looks kinda weird with all the antenna array deployed - and I imagine people think I am looking for aliens or peeping into their homes. At any rate, it will find your pet up to a mile in open sight. Does not use GPS, so if your cat is stuck in someones basement, it will still work. Also requires no monthly fee!

So... I got it for my cat, Calico.

1. Before this we kept the cat on a leech outside and we used a halter with a mesh front. Here is the one she wears now. We use it now with the Loc8tor tag.

http://www.amazon.com/Coastal-Pet-Pink-Mesh-Harness/dp/B002UKDI02

Calico knows that the halter means she is going outside and the Loc8tor Plus lets her run free.

2. We sew a small pocket inside the chest of the mesh. That's where the alert goes. It is snug and doesn't dangle.

3. Read the reviews and you know that water is an issue for the tags. We wrap the tag with Saran wrap before we insert it in the pocket. So far, no problem with water.

4. We have to get her in before the coyotes and bobcat shows up and we use food for incentive. Her main meal is at night so at about 4:00 she is usually close to the house and ready to eat. The Loc8tor unit finds her for us even if she is sleeping or under the porch.

5. Also, she gets Greenies as a treat when we bring her in. Her tag will start beeping when I look for her so she knows it is time to get her Greenies. I think it helps.

6. Batteries are expensive and the alert mode runs them down. Cut off the alert. Look online at the manual to find out how to take it out of "alert mode". While in alert mode, the handheld device and the sensor are in constant contact.

7. The watch battery is expensive locally. That's what the sensor uses. Buy the watch batteries online. You can get 10 at a time pretty cheap here at Amazon. Get the silver oxide for extended life.

8. When searching the unit times out every few seconds. It is irritating.
