Hard To Describe,

We found this music while having lunch one summer afternoon at the Aloha-Angel Cafe on the Big Island's Kona coast. It was one of those afternoons where the sky has clouded over, threatening a shower, and a cool breeze is rewarding you on a warm summer afternoon in Hawaii. We were watching the gecko on the veranda railing and listening to the music as we enjoyed our lunch. Well, the lunch was one of the best we've had on our Hawaii vacation (one of those times in one's life that will never be forgotten) and we noticed that the music playing was very unusual ... obviously Hawaiian, but a little folksy/jazzy at the same time, while always being mellow and unique and definitely influencing our enjoyment of a very wonderful experience. We asked our friends (who have spent much more time in Hawaii than we have, and have found some wonderful island music) if they recognized what was playing. They didn't recognize it so we asked the waiter ... and in a few minutes he had produced the CD jacket for us to examine ... it was "Local Girls". We immediately went from our wonderful lunch at Aloha-Angel, to the Kona [local bookstore] to buy a copy of this CD. Alas, it is very popular in Hawaii, as not only did [local bookstore] not have it in Kona (they were sold out), every other place we checked in Hawaii was also sold out. We finally found a [local bookstore] in Oahu, outside of Honolulu that had several copies (we were afraid that if we waited until we returned to the mainland, we would never find it - forgetting completely that Amazon might have it!). We bought ours and a copy for our friends who had already returned to the mainland. All I can say is that this music will forever remind me of our fantastic lunch at the Aloha-Angel Cafe in Kailua-Kona, with our best friends, and a very special summer afternoon. I hope this exceptional music will please you as much as it has us.

I heard the most awesome Hawaiian, yet funky music that was great background music for where I was... in Maui! Those girls have great voices, and I have to say I actually heard this song "Promised love" about 4 times in one day, so I finally asked a man at a local market who was singing this song! I found out, and now have the cd! Maui NO KA OI!

While vacationing in Hawaii recently, I listened to a local radio station. Two of my favorite songs on the radio were "Over" and "Promised Love". When I returned home, I searched the internet for those songs, and to my surprise they were both by the same group - Keahiwai!! This is such a fun album and takes me back to Hawaii with it's unique sounds and sights!! What a bonus to find "When You Say Nothing At All" on this album too - it's one of my all time favorite songs!! (...)

The first time I heard this CD I thought it was really awesome!! Their voices are so crisp and strong, ane every song on here is great to listen to.. Just put it in and let it play from beginning to end.. Trust me, you will not be dissapointed.. I can't wait for their second CD to come out.. I'm sure that one will be just as good or even better... It doesn't surprise me that Keahiwai was nominated for so many Na Hoku awards.. This CD is well worth your money... Mahalo Nui!!

I went to Hawaii two months after September 11, It was a very well needed vacation. As I work in NY and had to get away from the sadness. I remember hearing this song sooo many times. (Come to think of it, I don't know how it was heard so much since we were never in a car for that long). Anyways, "Promised Love' was such an laid back inspiring song.. I made sure I got the name of the group from the receptionist upon checkout.. Came back to NJ and searched the net. Listening to their songs is like the plearsure you feel when you get a seashell from the beach and can still hear the ocean. It takes me back to that wonderful island every time.

Actually bought this for my dad after he heard a single from the album, but I enjoyed listening to it as well. I would recommend this cd to anyone who likes good Hawaiian music. Nice sound with warm vocals.

Earlier today, I was trying to figure out who sang that "Promised Love" song, a song I've heard on the radio many times but never learned who sang it. Luckily, I found out when I happened upon this CD at the store. "Promised Love" and "Over" are the best songs and I do really like their cover of "When You Say Nothing At All," but some of their other songs are quite good too. They are obviously quite talented, having perfect voices while also writing their own music, somewhat rare for musicians their age. Hopefully I will be able to catch them in concert sometime out here in Hawaii.

This is probably the most surprising album of Hawaiian reggae/folk music. I discovered it while searching for island reggae music and just had to have this album! I even bought it for some friends. This is a new band of two young singers, but their music is so mature, intoxicating and enjoyable that they have risen to instant top 10 status on the islands. Hey, even Kmart/Walmart were having them on their top 10 list! You won't be disappointed.
