Everything You Need to Know to Do the Best By Your Pet (and maybe more than you wanted to know).

This is an amazing book if you are the average pet owner (as I am) that goes to the vet and doesn't really ask any questions and is glad to get your pet back. It reminds me a lot of Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential - a behind the scenes view of what it's REALLY LIKE in the back room and the back office. Learn how to buy the best care for your pet and avoid being ripped off.

Be warned though, parts of it are not for the faint of heart, tales of animals being abused, and stories of common injuries aren't bedtime reading. A great read about the business practices that drive Veterinarian profits.

Must read for pet owners in the U.S.A.

A wake up call for those of us who believe vets only have our pet's best interest at heart. Although most of the advice can be applied anywhere, part of it is especially geared towards checking out a vet in the U.S.A. Best advice? "Get a mutt from the pound, they are the healthiest".

I wish I had known

This book is a gem and worth far more than it costs. Wall is experienced, well-informed and down to earth. His writing is approachable and at times quite funny. I once had two purebred Chartreux. Because I paid the breeder a large sum of money for them, I assumed their health care would be expensive too. I realized how naive I was AFTER I paid my vet for allergy treatments and learned they were for the cats' allergies, not mine! I wish I had known just a few of these things. I could have provided better care for my cats and I would have saved some money.
