4.0 out of 5 stars Book about Nessie
My 8-year old daughter is really into Nessie, and I don't mind encouraging her, if it gets her interested in studying ancient animals (dinosaurs) and geography (Scotland). She likes the pictures and the story. I appreciate the fact that it's a realistic portrayal of unexplained phenomenon. Recent scientific explorations of the Loch are discussed briefly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very expensive for a little book
This is a good book, interesting, great pictures, but silly me didn't look at how many pages it was before I bought it. From the price of it, I assumed it was one of those big encyclopedia type books. But it's only 48 pages, similar to a storybook. Not worth over $20 IMO.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Loch Ness references I've found, February 19, 2012
After seeing that this book was averaging only 2.5 stars, I had to do my part to tilt the balance upwards! I just researched and wrote my own book for young adults on the Loch Ness monster, utilizing dozens of books, articles, websites, etc. as sources. And this book was probably my favorite reference! Ms. Parks has a clear, engaging style that really pulls the reader in--whether she's recounting a dramatic monster sighting or explaining more science-y topics, such as how sonar works (which she integrates seamlessly into the text). And although the book is written at a kid-friendly level--and isn't terribly long-- it is incredibly comprehensive, covering not only sightings and evidence but various hypotheses for the sightings and debunkings of the evidence. If you're looking for a fun-to-read, fantastic summary of all the research out there about the Loch Ness monster (and there's a lot out there!), pick up this book!! Highly recommended for adults or kids!
