"This Goes out to Mr. Austin",
By Matt Keenan (Orcas Island, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Loch: A Novel (Paperback)
A boy nicknamed loch and his sister zaidee are involuntarily going on an expedition to a Vermont lake to look for modern plesiosaurs with their father, Dr. Sam. Dr. Sam is a marine biologist, and he works for a despicable man named Mr. Cavenger. Loch doesn't think they will find anything, but then, loch discovers a baby Plesiosaur and the knowledge that Cavenger doesn't want to just find the creatures, but kill them. Zindel does a good job in telling an epic adventure with movie-like detail! Loch does have many horror elements to it such as the plesiosaur killing some people and some chilling descriptions of peoples remains being found after one of the dinosaurs were done killing them, but its more of an adventure to save the prehistoric creatures with the main characters, Loch and Zaidee. This is another one of Paul Zindels best works; it is everything that I read a book for. It seems to me that a book that is about sea horror is a lot better than any other book. I would give it 41/2 stars out of 5.

An excellant horror story.,
This review is from: Loch: A Novel (Paperback)
Fifteen year old Loch (nicknamed that because he claimed to see the Loch Ness monster during a family trip in Scotland when he was a toddler), his little sister, Zaidee, and his girlfriend, Sarah, join their dads on an expedition to search for a monster in a Vermont lake. While exploring, the three discover a baby monster that appears to be a creature left from prehistoric times. Now they must convince Sarah's father and his crew that the creatures will be harmless if left alone. But the stubborn adults won't listen, and the kids have to save the creatures - and the humans. A suspenseful horror story that I highly reccomend.

The Mystery,
This review is from: Loch (School & Library Binding)
This book begins with a boy named Loch who for the first time encounters the Lochness Monster when two of the sheep from his herd fall into the lake and get devoured. Then Loch spends the rest of his life looking for the answer to this question. Does the Lochness monster really exsist? You will have to find out for yourselve. It is a really good book and I would recommend this book only to the people who like horror books. Otherwise you would not like this book.

A great, flip-till-you-rip book!,

This book was too cool! We were getting ready to pick our books at the school library, when I came across a cool dinosaur head! I picked it up, checked it out, and that night, didn't stop reading untill I finshed the book 2 hours later!! Yea, sure, it's not for the weak at heart (ie, Running over and half-eaten Jesse Sanderson's head on a Jet Ski,or having someones blood splatter all over the boss' daughter who's just trying to steer the boat, or getting hit in the head with the same person's disembodied arm!), but hey, come on.I think this book is real cool, and now I HAVE to read The Reef of Death, which is the sequel.

An exciting adventure and horror book,
By jasenao (Dothan, Alabama, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Loch (School & Library Binding)
"Loch" is a great horror book. But it's not completely a horror book like you might expect it to be. Several plesiosaurs are living in a Vermont lake. Many people have told stories of seeing them, and that leads to a group of scientists wanting to capture one alive or kill it and take its remains to prove the existence of these prehistoric aquatic beasts. The man who is over the operation to find the plesiosaurs is Cavenger, and he won't let anything get in his way of finding and catching or killing one of the dinosaurs. However, after making friends with a young plesiosaur up close, the kids of some of the scientists, Loch, Zaidee, and Sarah want to help save the dinosaurs."Loch" does have many horror elements to it such as the plesiosaurs killing some people and some chilling descriptions of people's remains being found after one of the dinosaurs were done killing them, but it's more of an adventure to save the prehistoric creatures with the main characters, Loch and Zaidee. I used to be real interested in the Lochness Monster headlines a few years ago before some people admitted it was a hoax, and that was the main reason I wanted to read this book. You can tell "Loch" is sort of taken from the real life Lochness Monster news of a few years back even though it doesn't say it in this book. The Lochness Monster hoax was supposed to be a plesiosaur, and the plesiosaurs in this book are right next to Lake Champlain, where a lot of people used to think a real Lochness Monster lived in real life. If you like dinosaurs and especially if you like sea-related adventures, I recommend reading "Loch." It's a well written book and it's exciting.

A Very Good Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Loch: A Novel (Paperback)
My first Paul Zindel book ever! LOCH kinda represents The Loch Ness Monster. In this book Loch and his sister are on a expedition with there father and hit boss who is trying to prove the existence of lake monsters. On a routine mission a water beast explodes out of the water and a photographer loses his life. These things are known as plesiosaurs and somehow there cover got blown. Loch encounters a baby plesiosaur that lost it's mother and they become friends. So Loch risks his life to save the creatures from being destroyed. The best parts were whenever a plesiosaur showed up. this is one of Paul Zindel's longest books.

Loch is a story about a sixteen year old boy who goes on an expedition with his dad and sister. While they are out on the lake, a lochness monster devours a cameraman. A day later, Loch finds a baby lochness monster when he is scuba diving. Loch tries to save the baby and the other monsters from the inhumane Anthony Cavenger. The end is fantastic. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes dinosaurs and underwater creatures.

Creatures from Below,
By A Customer
This review is from: Loch: A Novel (Paperback)
Loch By Paul Zindel"What happens when legends become fact?" When Loch and his sister are with their father on a scientific expedition to track legendary lake monsters in Lake Alban, until now, the exercise had not been rewarded, but the fleet is attacked when they go on the first search. Loch and his sister then come across one of the plesiosaur's offspring, and they realize that the creatures only attack when threatened. So he risks his life - and the lives of his friends - to save the plesiosaurs from Cavenger's ruthless claws. But can he open the salmon grid in time? Loch is one of my favorite books, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is reluctant to read. After all, I've had it since 1995, and I read it almost every time I travel somewhere. |
