4.0 out of 5 stars Quit the Day Job
Of the three celtic influenced punk, Real McKenzies, Dropkick Murphys & Flogging Molly that I'm familiar with, these guys are my top choice. High energy, joyous, double bagpipes integrated in every song. Best songs: Flowers of Scotland - an acoustic traditional plea, Swords of a thousand Men - anthematic & sounds like half of Vancouver's doing backup vocals, Wild...

2.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment....
While I do enjoy the combination of bagpipes and guitars, I was not incredibly impressed by Loch'd and Loaded (granted I give them points for the clever title). I've noticed that the other reviews here are glowing, so maybe I'm just missing something, but I didn't see much passion behind the music. I found that often the only Celtic part to be heard were the pipes, and...

Great vocals throughout. Four stars cause there's room for improvement & I hope they can quit their day job's and focus on this real deal music.

i have always loved the more traditional celtic music, and have been somewhat dissappointed in the new wave of punk / celtic fushion. However, this band does a great job at blending the two styles together. These guys hae a good sense of humor along with honorable pride for their hertiage. This is just a fun cd, good lyrics about drinking, fighting, and scottish pride. I enjoy this cd alot, pick it up

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it now, May 13, 2003

All I can say is that this is the best CD i've heard in a long time. I've been searching for a band that can come close to them, but nothing yet. The next best things are Flogging Moly, the tossers, and Filthy Theivin BAstards. Buy this Cd right away. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!, September 30, 2001

This review is from: Loch'd & Loaded (Audio CD)
I'd never heard of the Real McKenzies until I stumbled upon Loch'd n Loaded at a Virgin Megastore and took a listen. I was riveted by the energy and the humor. Contrary to what the other reviewer says, I say this is a great album for anyone not familiar with the group (as I was). They also do an extraordinary cover of "Swords of a Thousand Men" by Tenpole Tudor (of Sex Pistols/Rock n Roll Swindle fame). I am utterly smitten by "Nessie," an ode to the Lochness Monster, and quite frankly by the entire album. With hesitation I say that they're like a Scottish version of The Ramones, but in truth, they're in a category by themselves. Bagpipes and guitars! Very cool. The Pogues were never this riotous...not even when Shane was at his angriest. The Real McKenzies are the real deal. And don't forget to visit their website at realmckenzies.com.

4.0 out of 5 stars Getting there......, November 5, 2002
This review is from: Loch'd & Loaded (Audio CD)
This is the 3rd sudio effort from this band (who have quickly risen as one of my favorites). It shows much more polish and focus than the sophmoric "Clash of Tartans". Most of the album is paced well, but seems to lose steam on the last three songs. A more careful arrangement of tunes could have solved that... Overall though the CD is just a lot of fun and is ten times better than half the crud that is put out as music and entertainment these days that top the charts. BUY IT !!! and then go to the website, see them live and support these hard working, drunk slobs!! They obviously love what they do and appreciate it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars real macs, September 20, 2001
This review is from: Loch'd & Loaded (Audio CD)
"Loch'd and Loaded" is another hilarious name for a Scottish Punk album. The previous album, "Clash of The Tartans" was also very amusing! I still think "Clash Of The Tartans" is if not better, than for sure hilarious! The album really does grow on you.(...) If you have a chance to see them live, DO IT. You will not be let down!

Plainly put, a great CD. A great blend of traditional Scottish and modern punk style. I truly enjoy the blend of thoughtful lyrics with the pipes and metal. This is one of the CDs I will play before every Highland Game and St. Patricks Day! My favorite songs on the album are "Scots Around The World" and "Swords of a Thousand Men", these reinforce "The Blood is Strong".

If you like the more melodic 'Dropkick Murphys' songs and enjoy the combination of Bagpipes and Power Guitars, then look no further: This CD has all these elements : Great Sing-along choruses, high speed guitars and lots of Bagpipes. I actually like the vocals better than 'Flogging Molly', and even there is still a bit of room to improve on the songwriting in my opinion, I strongly recommend buying this album. It is just pure fun!
