4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, leakproof, durable lunch container
I use this and an Emsa E503392 Clip and Close Shallow Rectangle Storage Container with 3 Inserts to pack my lunches for work - I like the dividers to separate out foods that I don't want to mix or leak into other items in my lunch, and I love that the seal and clips mean the lid won't leak or come loose in my purse on my commute. The volume and size is just about perfect for an adult's meal. If you like to pack bento style lunches, or just want to pack a variety of foods in a single container, this is a great product.

In the context of packing lunches, the only drawback is that I would prefer a container that is not quite so deep and had more length and width to hold the same volume. You kind of have to 'stack' food up to fill the depth of the container. The layout of the Emsa container linked above is perfect; however the material of the Lock & Lock container trays/inserts seems more durable than the Emsa, holds up better in the microwave and resists stains a little better. So the two are about equivalent for my purposes and I use them interchangeably.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for bentos!, November 12, 2009

I bought this to make bentos for my kids. It is the perfect size for them (10 and 8 yrs old) I love that the little compartments fit all the way up to the top lid. That keeps food from spilling around the locked container. It is also nice that the food is separated and not touching each other. I have several different types of bento containers and this is a great addition to my collection.

I love lock &lock, so when I wanted to pack bentos for my kids, I figured they would be the best choice. As usual, I read the reviews before buying, and they were positive. Most stated that the food didn't leak from one compartment to the next, exactly what I wanted to hear. I ordered 3, one for each child, and thought they were great. Perfect size container, perfect portion inner sections, easy for my young kids to open, yet has a great airtight lid; so many positives. The one negative is a big one, though. The inner sections DO leak into each other. So many stated that they don't that I thought I must have a "bad" set, but I have 3, and this is a problem for all of them, so I doubt this is the case. It is great that they don't leak all over their backpacks, but the kids did not like the "dust" from the crackers sticking to the grapes in the other section, or the natural juices that comes from any fruit touching their cheese in another section. (cant blame them; wet cheese, blech)They are fine for me to use, as I dont have them knocking around in a backpack, they are typically placed upright in my fridge, but I dont really need them, I am a stay at home mom who can just put my food on a plate....no fancy sectioned container needed (wow, I guess I do need to get out more!)I tried to put a napkin in the bottom to make the sections more tight to the lids, it was too thick to close. Any suggestions from other users on how to help this would be appreciated,as I really want to use these for snacks for the kids at school.

I bought this for my son to take his lunch to preschool. It's nice because he only has to open one container but can have multiple (divided) foods.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the LOck & Lock Line :), November 12, 2008
This review is from: Lock & Lock 3.6 Cup Rectangular Storage with Trays (Kitchen)
I love the entire line im collecting all the pieces! I have two of this particular peice and i use it 2 pack lunches with. Mostly taco salad ingredients i put sour cream, salsa cheese and olives in each of the four compartments then spread over tortilla chips for a taco salad.
Its important ingredients dont mix sometimes for lunches as they would be a big mushy mess by lunch time.

4.0 out of 5 stars My 5 year old LOVES this lunch container, February 16, 2011

This is a great lunch container for a child. For an adult, I don't think it would fit enough food (there is a larger 6.6 cup size that would probably be good for an adult). My child was having a hard time with the other lunch containers we had, some of them were to stiff for her to open and/or close on her own and we actually had a note sent home from the school asking us if we could try to find containers she could do entirely on her own as she would get very frustrated if an adult could not immediately help her. So I found this container to try. When it arrived and I showed it to her, it was amazing that her face lit up like it was the best present ever and she was very excited to try it out herself. I had ordered 2 of them but now have ordered 3 more, so that we have enough for the entire school week and I can put some of the items in ahead of time without having to wait for a container to come back and be cleaned.

I only rated this 4 stars for the same drawbacks others have stated. Mainly that there is a potential for food to leak from one section to another. We haven't had that problem because my child's lunch bag is separate (and too big) for her backpack. It is also a private school with no busses, so parents drive their kids and take them in to the building. So for us, it hasn't been a problem since I'm usually the one carrying the lunch bag and the lunch bag is large enough for the container to fit flat on the bottom. I can definitely see the problem if the container is being placed sideways into a smaller lunch bag and/or having to be crammed into a backpack.

A great, inexpensive, toddler lunchbox. Perfect size for my 4 year old's school lunch. Four cups offer variety. A half sandwich cut into two squares fits perfectly into one of the containers. Wash in the top rack of the dishwasher, no BPA, inexpensive, definitely a workhorse in our house.

I absolutely love this. It makes packing lunch a breeze and is easier to clean up than four separate containers. I do wish the interior containers sealed at the lid level (as one reviewer mentioned) so I could include fruit in one section without having the juices leak into the chips, but it does not. Perhaps a previous model did?? It fits perfectly in my son's lunchbox with his thermos funtainer beside it for a totally "green" lunch. I love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sandwich box with TINY little boxes inside, August 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lock & Lock 3.6 Cup Rectangular Storage with Trays (Kitchen)
I think this is a great concept and perfect for little ones, although they may struggle to unsnap the lid. The four boxes inside are so small that they MIGHT hold 4-5 mini carrots in one, but that would require cramming them in. Again, great size for little kids, but not a good size for adults or teens unless you remove the inside boxes and just use it to hold a regular size white or wheat bread sandwich. However, for the price, this is an expensive sandwich holder....

The removable trays are very nice. I rarely use all for in it at once, but it is nice to be able to keep your boiled egg separated from say your fruit. I think another feature that they don't really stress is the depth of the container. It is deeper than most storage containers. Not a lot...but just enough to allow for extra food or a thicker sandwich.
