5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, leak proof and stacks efficiently
These containers really are leak proof and airtight. They are used most frequently in my home to story dry goods (beans, rice, flour) and for lunches.

I make a lot of soups for lunch. These absolutely do not leak in the lunch bag, even when they are not upright. The seal on these containers is fabulous. The seal will not leak. Given the closing...

1.0 out of 5 stars rip off
I have used Lock & Lock for several years & have been a great fan. This offering is a rip-off. (Hint: they don't tell you what the 17 pieces are.)
Fool that I am, I ordered one anyway. 4 little containers too small for any storage, 3 medium (usefull) , and 1 too large for anything in the kitchen. That's only eight items. Add eight tops (!!!!) gets you to sixteen...

Given the closing mechanism, it is impossible to not know whether the container is closed or not. That might explain why they don't spill.

The products stack beautifully in the pantry. If you like efficiency, and hate wasted space in the pantry or refrigerator, that is another reason to purchase these.

I highly recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm a Lock&Lock Junky!, April 1, 2006
This review is from: Lock & Lock HPL838SA 17-Piece Rectangular Food-Storage Container Set with Lids (Kitchen)
These little jewels are organizing wonders. I love that they are airtight - cheese stays fresh for a loooonnngggg time. As does dried fruit, nuts, chocolate, and well, everything. Keeps bugs out of my dry goods - like flour, sugar, and pasta. I can't get enough of them and have thrown out ALL my other containers. The rectangle shapes are my all time favorites. They stack up neatly and you can see what's in them. Go for it, you'll not find a reason to use any other container once you've tried these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best containers I have ever owned!, September 27, 2007

G rated Grandma (Orlando, FL, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lock & Lock HPL838SA 17-Piece Rectangular Food-Storage Container Set with Lids (Kitchen)
These airtight, leakproof containers are my container of choice and I have used every food container on the market. I bought only two because I was tired of buying containers that suggested that they were "air tight" but still leaked soup, gravy, salad dressing, and sangria! I conducted my own experiment and Lock & Lock was the only 100% reliable leakproof container and they are durable. They simply work and that is all I want a product to do - do what you promise. The office maid guarded them fiercely for me when they were in my work refrigerator because people would go in and take them out because they had never seen them before. Anyway, after 3 years and hundreds of dishwasher and microwave visits, my mother did not believe they would still be leakproof. I filled my two with water and stood them on edge on the kitchen counter. After 5 days, my mom asked -- are you going to move them or what? OK, so they still work -- you win -- where do I get some? I live in the the tropics and the bonus of the Lock & Lock container is that your food stays fresher LONGER and for dried goods like raisins, sugar, etc. and other things that little "crazy" ants like - the silicon seal keeps them out. One of the few products I can say I absolutely love that has never disappointed me and I don't have to be afraid of dropping! The only reason I had two is that every time I came to the U.S. they were not in stock at the store I bought my originals from. Now I am getting 2 sets - one for me and one for my Mom!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mine were dishwasher safe, December 30, 2006
This review is from: Lock & Lock HPL838SA 17-Piece Rectangular Food-Storage Container Set with Lids (Kitchen)
Despite other reviews - I put my lock &lock's in the dishwasher, bottom rack with the hot setting and they are fine. I definitely think it is possible for them to warp but I'm just stating that mine did not. And similarly to other reviews - I am an addict. I love them and use them for everything: canisters and storage for the kitchen, organizers for my office and bedroom. I even use the large one to separate my socks and underwear in my dresser drawers. I'm a huge fan.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cleaning the seal, October 8, 2008
By
This review is from: Lock & Lock HPL838SA 17-Piece Rectangular Food-Storage Container Set with Lids (Kitchen)
Lock and lock products do seem to keep most things a while longer. I bought several sets. A complaint I have is AFTER you purchase the product and read the instructions, L&L advises to remove the seal to clean under it. They advise NOT to use a knife to remove this seal. They DO NOT give any suggestions on what to use to remove the seal. I have mold or something growing under the seal, that I can see and the only way I know to get the seal out is to remove it with a knife tip. Be very aware that mold can grow under the seal and L&L does not offer suggestions as to how to remove the seal to clean under it.

I started my collection with left over wedding money 3 years ago and I keep buying more. Crackers, croûtons & cereal seem to have an infinite life in these containers! I haven't had any problem putting these in the dishwasher. They seem a little pricey but I'm so happy with them that I don't mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome, and found cheaper elsewhere, May 2, 2008
This review is from: Lock & Lock HPL838SA 17-Piece Rectangular Food-Storage Container Set with Lids (Kitchen)
These are by far the best containers ever. My husband and I both bring lunches to work and these are THE ONLY ones I've ever found that don't leak all over the place. This set and many of the other individual pieces can be found at [...] for less than what they're going for here. They're definitely worth the time to look for them and the individual costs. They're the only ones we'll use if we need to pack food to take somewhere, and the food stays fresher longer. We have had staining from tomato sauces, but that's more likely from microwaving the container with the sauce to reheat a lunch, but no smells stay in the container. Some people are having trouble with this set because the sizes and capacities aren't listed. Here they are:
One- 38-cup Container with lid. Measures: 8.9" x 11.5" x 7.3"
Four- 1.3-cup Containers with lids. Measures: 4.1" x 5.4" x 2.1"
One- 8-cup Container with lid. Measures: 5.3" x 8.1" x 4.7"
Two- 3.6-cup Containers with lids. Each measures: 4.1" x 5.4" x 4.7"
One - Stay fresh tray

Buy 'em, they're worth it!

I got the 17pc set of these off the clearence rack at Giant (Grocery Store) and it was the best $12.99 I ever spent! They are so much better than most storage containers. There is no guessing if the lid is on or not. I LOVE THESE!!!!
