I just received 3 of these containers and very disappointed with them. I was so excited to get them for our cereals. They are advertised as water and airtight but not so. I went to rinse out the inside with the lid on and it leaked water thru the spout and hinge area.

I called the lock n lock company and spoke to a rep. She says that containers with spouts and flip top lids ARE NOT WATER nor AIRTIGHT! I will be returning these.

I love lock n lock and I have a lot of them but not any of the dispenser type.

I live in the northeastern part of the US...and we all know that it can get pretty humid up here in the summer. NJ to be specific. I like cereal - and therefore it must be crunchy when I sit down to have my breakfast/snack etc.... Well, humidity sometimes makes that impossible....the crunch is there but its not 100%.....its got the soggy factor.

I got one of these dispensers at a friends recommendation....came quickly (as always with Amazon). I put my new box of cereal in it and started using it daily.....after about a week the cereal was crunchy as could be. Call me crazy - but that week was rainy and humid in NJ and my normal cereal dispenser would have made the cereal feel a bit less crunchy. This thing is AIR TIGHT and it can fit about 2-3 regular boxes of cereal without an issue.

The build quality is GREAT - very heavy duty plastic. The lid is also perfectly designed to snap on to the sides to keep the air out.

Try one...you wont be disappointed.

I live in the tropics and during the dry season the ants come indoors looking for food. With the lock-n-lock system they can't smell the food, so don't want to get into it. Its airtight seal does keep cereal from going stale, especially handy when bying in bulk.

I purchased 4 of these containers for rice and cereal after several different bags of each were infested with grain insects. These containers are exactly as they are described except for one caveat. Though there is a gasket (maybe Silicone) between the top lid and the container, there is only a plastic to plastic seal for the spout. It is NOT air tight at this location and will be the only source of entry for a potential future infestation.

I've had these now for nearly 6 months and have not seen any additional problems with insects so they do seem to work for my kitchen despite the spout. If the manufacturer is watching, I'd recommend a screw top (acme threaded) with a matching o-ring seal. I know it will cost more but I'd pay for it.

My husband and I have fallen in love with our new dispensers. We purchased 4 so we could have a "variety" of cereal for our 5 children. The problem we had prior to this purhase was ripped bags, open bags = MESS and STALE cereal! Although one container doesn't hold an entire bag of cereal we can pour half in then store the properly closed, not ripped bag until the dispenser needs filled.

The top is a bit tricky at first but once you realize this its not a problem. The only ones that are unhappy with our purchase would be the field mice who no longer get a snack:o)

If you like Snapware, this is pretty much the same thing in terms of function! I primarily use this to store cereal, and it does a great job holding a regular-sized bag. It has a seal around the edge of the snapping lid to ensure that it has an airtight lock, however the flip-top portion of it doesn't seem to have that... oh well though because it stays shut like it should. Speaking of the flip-top lid, I wish it had some kind of small pouring lip on it for more focused dispensing action. Also, please note that the flip-top also does not open beyond 90 degrees! It will go to a point, then you can push it a tiny bit further to lock it open, don't try to go further!

Great for keeping cereal fresh. You know the cereal manufacturers won't change their packaging because the packaging they now use does not keep the product fresh. Therefore, you end up throwing it away and purchasing more. Using this Lock N' Lock container eliminates that problem.

I'm not sure how tight of a seal a person is expecting with these...unless you're using them as scuba tanks on a deep sea mission or something.

I can squeeze mine, and no air seems to come out, so that's way good enough for me. Our crib is not infested with insects and rodents like some peoples', but we do have those darned silverfish thingies that seem to come out of the waterpipes or something sometimes...and I don't want them in my cereal box, I guess. :D

I got this box because it was 16.5 cups, and the others I looked at we huge...like 22-23 cups or something. I don't have a litter of kids munching down commercial quantities of cereal, so I wanted the smallest container I could find to keep the smaller "adult" type boxes of cereal fresh, since I rarely eat it. This container was PLENTY big enough...with lots of room to spare!

See my pictures for what the box they shipped looks like as of 01/25/12. It has a blue top, thick o-ring seal, and the flip top (no o-ring) seals just fine for me. It has indents on one side, to make it easy to grasp when pouring.

I'm going to order at least a couple more, to hold another type of cereal, one for my girlfriend's pretzels, and maybe one for beef jerky!

I love these containers because, while they may not be absolutely airtight around the spout, they DO keep out insects and keep the cereal fresh a very long time. Certainly better than a bunched up bag inside the original box! They're a little pricey, but the plastic quality is very good so I suspect they will last a long time. Love the neat pantry, too!

These seem to be very airtight to me..I've bought 3 now. They hold a box full of cereal. The first one developed a crack in one of the hinges on the lid but I contacted Heritage and they replaced it right away.
