This safe is the one I purchased after checking out all the rest on Amazon.com and every other online source I could find. The local bank raised their safety deposit box rent last month, and it inspired me to finally get an adequate substitute to store the stuff at home. While in the Army, one of my additional duties was as the security manager for my organization. As such, I always had one or more safes to sign for; open and close almost every day; and perform inventories of the documents contained therein. So for my home safe, I was looking for one which was sturdy enough and had familiar features. I didn't want any which used electronic/battery operated components. I wanted a standard combo dial. I didn't want one that was "waterproof," as I had prior negative experiences with moisture/mold in those "air-tight" models. After reading the other reviews and examining the product specs, I settled on the LockState LS-30J. This safe meets my requirements to a "t." It is sturdy, well-constructed, and can be anchored to the floor. I consider the fact that the combo lock is augmented by a key a security plus. All-in-all, I am very satisfied with my purchase, and look forward to many years of solid service from this safe. I bought it from Amazon with free shipping, so not having to pay an extra $42 was an added bonus. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

P.S. I've tried three separate times to get Amazon to correct one item of erroneous information they have in the "Product Features" section. As stated by the manufacturer (on this same product page AND one the manufacturer's web site), the safe will protect contents from heat and fire for up to one hour at a temperature of 1850 degrees Fahrenheit (not 1800 as is incorrectly stated in the "Product Features"). Not a big deal as far as temperature goes, but Amazon should WANT to get it right and put out the correct information.

The first thing you notice when you open the box is the sturdiness of the entire safe. The dial is made of steel with a steel bezel and a smooth action. The key hole is also steel and very rugged. The heavy duty hinges are as low profile as possible with zero room for a crowbar to pry them apart. This safe requires both a combination and a key in order to unlock. There are three bolts that secure the door. Two bolts are fixed in position on the same side as the hinges, fitting into inset cavities when locked. Opposite the hinges, one thick steel bolt disengages with the locking mechanism. All of the bolts are about 2-3 inches in from the door behind two large bevels. Even if the hinges are somehow mangled and removed, the safe has a tremendously secure three-point bolt system, securing the swinging door in place. This is the only safe in this price range that can provide some semblance of security while guarding against potential fire hazard. There is a minute amount of play in the door; not to mention, there are several bevels behind the door that would regulate temperature, cinders, and potential gas intrusion as a result of fire. There is a pre-drilled hole in the safe to secure it to the floor or some other surface. A floor anchor kit is included. Overall, this is all you could ask for from a safe at this price.

The only con is that there isn't as much space inside as I would have liked, but security and price took precedence.

Words of Warning:

Other safes in this price range have key overrides, digital combinations, plastic "locking mechanisms" or are advertised as Fire Safes.
*key overrides undermine security protection of the contents in a safe. Also, many are ridiculously easy to break into. Lets just say that the tiny nail file from a pair of toe nail clippers is more than suffice to break into some other safes. Feel free to look that one up.
*digital combinations have the poor durability of a digital face. They are easily broken or accidentally damaged with no other alternative to open the safe.
*plastic "locking mechanisms" are well....plastic. A couple hits from a hammer will easily override any security measures provided.
*Fire Safes realistically only protect against fire hazard proficiently. (This is a Fire-Proof Safe and there is a distinction)

Nice heavy safe that appears to be well built.
Being new to buying safes, I was surprised that it required both the key AND the combination to open the safe.
The door fits loose enough to "rattle", not at all "air-tight".
Possibly no need to worry about moisture build-up, but I wonder about how heat-proof it really is.
