Installation of wall safe between the studs Use a Drill, Tape measure, pencil, framing square, socket set, stud finder, hole saw Scroll saw or saber saw, utility knife, level, wood shims, and flashlight. .1) unpack all electronic wall safes components from the carton. This wall safe contains keys and screws. .2) choose a location that is convenient for you, such as bedroom or closet avoiding exterior walls. .3) using a stud finder locate the approximate position of the right hand stud. Use your hole saw to drill a pilot hole to determine where the inside edge of this stud is located. Look inside this hole before cutting with a flashlight to check for electric, telephone and cable TV wires, heating ducts, or plumbing. It is important to avoid all such obstructions to prevent damage to your home during installation Using your square draw a line 21-1/8 inches along the inside edge of the stud. This is where you will install the hinge side of the electronic wall safe. Then using your square draw a line 14 inches to left from them top of your scribed line. Then repeat this on the bottom. Then draw a connecting vertical line. You should now have a rectangle 21-1/8 high by 14 inches wide .4) Starting at the pilot hole cut the sheet rock out with your saber saw. Then have a helper hold the home wall safes in position while you circle the bolt holes with a pencil on the studs before you let go of the hotel wall safes. Then drill the bolt pilot holes. Then socket wrench the bolts in on the right side of the in wall fire safes. Do not over tighten. Repeat on left side with shims if needed. Next install the shelves in the home wall safe.

I must admit, I am very impressed with the quality of this safe. No, it is not fire proof, but it is of good quality. Very heavy, sturdy, well coated and protected welds. The locking mechanism is simple, safe, and consistant. Always opens when I want it and doesn't open unless the correct combination is inputted.

Installation took me about 15 minutes. The directions claim you need about 14 1/4" of clearance between studs to install. That is true if you want to use their hardware, which is probably what you should do. But I couldn't, did not have that much clearance. This safe fit nicely into a clearance of 14" exactly. I used my own hardware to secure the safe to the studs. Very quick, clean, and sturdy. The metal lip around the frame of the safe is about one inch and covers the wall seams nicely.

Want good quality, then purchase this safe. Even with the shipping charge, I feel I got a good deal. By the way, this has plenty of room in it.

I was very happy with this safe when it arrived. I wanted a secure place to store a weapon that could be quickly opened and not accessable to small children. This safe meets my needs. It opens quickly and comes with backup keys. I personally wouldn't buy one that didn't come with keys. The safe is heavy and feels very solid (like a safe should). One word of advice. Make sure you have enough space between the wall studs before you begin cutting your hole. Measure the hole carefully before cutting. The studs that I placed my safe between were a little too far apart to accomodate the installation bolts that came with the safe. I had to go to Lowes and pick up some longer bolts (they're metric, by the way). The safe fits between regular 2x4 studs on 16 inch center without any problems. A large framed portrait covers the safe nicely. Setting the access code is no problem and changing the code is easy. There's also an indicator light that lets you know when the batteries need replacing.

Secure enough, with easy installation. Be aware, the inside lock mechanism housing takes up a lot of space (essentially the full width of the door, the middle third of the height, and 1/2 the depth of the interior space). With about 3" full interior depth, this leaves about 1.5" available depth in the middle 1/3 (vertically) of the unit. This may not be a problem, depending on what you're putting in it. For something like a 1" thick book (something with length and width), you can't get more than 1 in the thing.
